Esineiden internetin hyödyt iäkkäiden ja vanhusten kotihoidossa

Abstract

Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on tutkia esineiden internetin käytön hyötyjä iäkkäiden ja vanhusten kotihoidossa. Esineiden internetin käytön hyötyjä tarkastellaan laitteiden käytettävyyden ja niiden tuomien mahdollisuuksien näkökulmasta. Esineiden internetille esittelylle ja kotona asuvien iäkkäiden ja vanhusten nykypäivän tilanteelle on omat sisältölukunsa. Viimeisessä sisältöluvussa keskitytään esineiden internetin tuomiin mahdollisuuksiin kotihoidossa. Lisäksi luvussa esitellään esineiden internetin käyttöön liittyviä haasteita ja riskejä. Tutkielmassa esitellään yksityiskohtaisesti esineiden internetin ominaisuuksia ja sen ongelmakohtia. Esineiden internetin esittelyn lisäksi käydään läpi iäkkäiden ja vanhusten suhtautumista uusiin teknologioihin ja sen tuomiin haasteisiin. Tuloksina havaittiin kotihoidon olevan varteenotettava vaihtoehto verrattuna esimerkiksi laitoshoitoon, kun hyödynnetään esineiden internetin mahdollisuuksia. Esineiden internetin käytöllä voi olla muun muassa mielenterveyttä parantavia vaikutuksia ja se myös mahdollistaa iäkkäiden ja vanhusten asumisen pidempään kotona tarvitsemansa avun ja tuen avulla.

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the benefits of using the Internet of Things in home care for the elderly. The benefits of using the Internet of Things are examined from the perspective of the usability of the devices and the possibilities they bring. The presentation of the Internet of Things and the current situation of the elderly have their own content chapters. The last content chapter focuses on the possibilities of the Internet of Things in home care for the elderly. In addition, the chapter presents the challenges and risks associated with the use of the Internet of Things. The thesis presents in detail the properties of the Internet of Things and its problem areas. In addition to the introduction to the Internet of Things, the attitudes of the elderly towards new technologies and challenges they bring will be reviewed. As a result, home care was found to be a viable alternative compared to, for example, institutional care when taking advantage of the Internet of Things. The use of the Internet of Things can have mental health-enhancing effects, among other things, and it also enables the elderly to live at home with the help and support they need.
