t Approximating the Pareto fronts of nonlinear multiobjective optimization problems is considered and a property called inherent nondominance is proposed for such approximations. It is shown that an approximation having the above property can be explored by interactively solving a multiobjective optimization problem related to it. This exploration can be performed with available interactive multiobjective optimization methods. The ideas presented are especially useful in solving computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems with costly function value evaluations.

Hartikainen, Markus; Miettinen, Kaisa; Wiecek, Margaret M. (Springer, 2012)A method called PAINT is introduced for computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems. The method interpolates between a given set of Pareto optimal outcomes. The interpolation provided by the PAINT method ...

Zhou-Kangas, Yue; Miettinen, Kaisa; Sindhya, Karthik (Springer, 2018)In this paper, we introduce the MuRO-NIMBUS method for solving multiobjective optimization problems with uncertain parameters. The concept of set-based minmax robust Pareto optimality is utilized to tackle the uncertainty ...
Multiobjective shape design in a ventilation system with a preference-driven surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithm Chugh, Tinkle; Kratky, Tomas; Miettinen, Kaisa; Jin, Yaochu; Makkonen, Pekka (ACM, 2019)We formulate and solve a real-world shape design optimization problem of an air intake ventilation system in a tractor cabin by using a preference-based surrogate-assisted evolutionary multiobjective optimization algorithm. ...
