The aim of this study was to examine the value of peer support that enterprise social media provided by university can provide. Enterprise social media has several attributes that can be used in order to achieve benefits also in the concept of university, such as new means to communicate, share information and create broader networks. Value creation in enterprise social media is highly social, since the content there is created mostly by the users and in that way have an effect to the utility of the enterprise social media. Value was found to be co-created, so enterprise social media can only offer attributes that the user can either accept or abandon. The study was based on literature review and empirical part. On the grounds of the literature review was created a value creation mechanism of enterprise social media that was possible to be studied empirically with laddering interviews. The interviewees were students from University of Jyväskylä with major of information systems. Analysis of the interviews indicated that the values that students seek by using the enterprise social media are answers to questions and problems, sense of peer support, help to carry out studies, productivity and facility for studying, friendship and other social contacts, and correct information. The study proved that peer sup-port in the concept of university can be accomplished by using technology enabled platform similarly as in face-to-face conversations, and uses of enterprise social media are similar in the university as in other organizations. Besides, peer support was discovered to have broader effect on the value crea-tion in enterprise social media than only the end values of users. Based on this finding, a model describing the effect of peer support in the value creation of enterprise social media in the concept of university was created. Possible topics for future research could be testing the value creation mechanism of enterprise social in practice and broadening the study to other faculties....
