Players to international elite level and National teams’ success in final tournaments are key objectives in the 2025–2028 strategy for Finnish football and futsal. To achieve these goals, it is necessary to gain a deeper understanding of the sport paths that Finnish football players, who have reached the senior national team level, have followed since their childhood.
This study examines the sports paths of Finland’s senior national team football players before their national team debut through the following research questions: 1) What types of sports path profiles can be identified among national team football players? 2) What have been the experiences of current senior national team football players regarding their sports paths?
