Abstract

Mitä kulttuuri merkitsee tieteellisenä käsitteenä ja tutkimuskohteena? Minkälaisista lähtökohdista kulttuurien tutkijat teoretisoivat, tekevät havaintoja kenttätöissä, analysoivat aineistoja sekä kirjoittavat ihmisistä, arkielämästä ja yhteisöistä? Mitä tekijöitä tutkijan täytyy ottaa huomioon, jotta hän voisi tehdä tieteellisesti ja eettisesti kestäviä tulkintoja erilaisista kulttuureista, ja tuottaa tutkimuksellaan yhteiskunnallisesti tärkeää kulttuurista tietoa ihmisenä ihmisistä ihmisille? Teos on kokoelma humanistisesta kulttuurien tutkimuksesta ja sen menetelmistä. Menetelmäkirjan kirjoittajat ovat etnologeja, antropologeja, perinteentutkijoita, uskontotieteilijöitä ja digitaalisen kulttuurin tutkijoita.

This collection deals with cultural studies in the humanities and the methods it uses. Its authors include scholars of ethnology, anthropology, folkloristics, digital culture research, and study of religions. Its chapters address topics of discussion and debate in humanistic culture research and indicate what tools are currently being used to study cultural phenomena.
