Emittance of the ion beam extracted from an ion source is dependent on the initial focusing action at the plasma sheath. The properties of the plasma sheath is further dependent on the local electric fields and charge densities around the sheath. Experiments are conducted for creating different sets of conditions around the plasma sheath in an H- multicusp filament ion source and the resulting emittance of the extracted H- ion beam is measured. Variation of beam emittance under different plasma densities, electrode voltages and gas flows are analysed.

Characteristic Kα emission of electron cyclotron resonance ion source plasmas
Sakieldien, Moenir (University of Jyväskylä, 2018)This thesis presents the results of an investigation of the volumetric Kα emission rate/inner shell ionization rate from an Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECRIS) plasma tuned predominantly for high charge state ... -
Slit extraction and emittance results of a permanent magnet minimum-B quadrupole electron cyclotron resonance ion source
Kosonen, Sami; Kalvas, Taneli; Koivisto, Hannu; Tarvainen, Olli; Toivanen, Ville (Elsevier, 2024)We present an experimental and simulation study of high charge state ion beams produced with a permanent magnet electron cyclotron resonance ion source (ECRIS) with minimum-B quadrupole magnetic field topology and slit ... -

The biased disc of an electron cyclotron resonance ion source as a probe of instability-induced electron and ion losses
Tarvainen, O.; Kronholm, R.; Kalvas, T.; Koivisto, H.; Izotov, I.; Skalyga, V.; Toivanen, V.; Maunoury, L. (American Institute of Physics, 2019)Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECRIS) plasmas are prone to kinetic instabilities resulting in loss of electron and ion confinement. It is demonstrated that the biased disk of an ECRIS can be used as a probe to ...
