We present a study of on the goal-oriented modeling of RE processes executed by a practicing systems development team. The research combines an empirical case study of RE practices with the evaluation and simulation capability of i* modeling. Our analysis focuses on a system implementation project at a mid-size U.S. university and applies the theory of distributed cognition to generate a range of design insights for goal identification and process enhancement.

Development of an Agile Requirements Risk Prioritization Method : A Design Science Research Study
Tuunanen, Tuure; Vartiainen, Tero; Kainulainen, Sanna; Ebrahim, Mehdi (Association for Information Systems, 2023)The practice of information systems development (ISD) has changed during the past two decades from very structured approaches to agile ISD methods. However, many methods available for managing requirements-related risks ... -
Computational Rationality as a Theory of Interaction
Oulasvirta, Antti; Jokinen, Jussi P. P.; Howes, Andrew (ACM, 2022)How do people interact with computers? This fundamental question was asked by Card, Moran, and Newell in 1983 with a proposition to frame it as a question about human cognition – in other words, as a matter of how information ... -
Towards Practical Cybersecurity Mapping of STRIDE and CWE : a Multi-perspective Approach
Honkaranta, Anne; Leppänen, Tiina; Costin, Andrei (FRUCT Oy, 2021)Cybersecurity practitioners seek to prevent software vulnerabilities during the whole life-cycle of systems. Threat modeling which is done on the system design phase is an efficient way for securing systems; preventing ... -
Adding ‘Sense’ to Conceptual Modeling : An Interdisciplinary Approach
Halttunen, Veikko (SCITEPRESS Science And Technology Publications, 2019)In this paper, our aim is to widen the prevailing foundations of conceptual modeling theories and practices, particularly in the context of information systems development. The approach shifts the focus from the link between ... -
Species distributions models may predict accurately future distributions but poorly how distributions change : A critical perspective on model validation
Piirainen, Sirke; Lehikoinen, Aleksi; Husby, Magne; Kålås, John Atle; Lindström, Åke; Ovaskainen, Otso (Wiley, 2023)Aim Species distribution models (SDMs) are widely used to make predictions on how species distributions may change as a response to climatic change. To assess the reliability of those predictions, they need to be critically ...
