In this information age recommender systems are inseparable part of our day to day lives and the ever growing amount of information in the internet makes sure we will need them even more in the future. The outcome of the research for this thesis was that recommender systems are integral part of how the customers consume media. Recommender systems can also cause problems which can reflect even on our society. The most notable of these problems are the echo chambers. Echo chambers occur when recommender systems reccommend information from too one-sided point of view. We also find that these echo chambers have been used to target disinformation to the group most susceptible to it.
