Herein we report a multi‐component reaction approach for the development of a new class of hydrogelators based on the OxoTriphenylHexanOate (OTHO) backbone. A focused library of OTHOs has been synthesized and their hydrogelation features evaluated. The two most potent hydrogelators were studied by rheology revealing different stiffness, appearances and thixotropic behavior of the gels. The new gelators showcase the versatility of the OTHO backbone as a platform for the design of functionalized hydrogels with tunable gel properties.

Nanoscale Probing of the Supramolecular Assembly in a Two-Component Gel by Near-Field Infrared Spectroscopy
Chevigny, Romain; Sitsanidis, Efstratios Dimitrios; Schirmer, Johanna; Hulkko, Eero; Myllyperkiö, Pasi; Nissinen, Maija; Pettersson, Mika (Wiley-VCH Verlag, 2023)The design of soft biomaterials requires a deep understanding of molecular self-assembly. We introduce here a nanoscale infrared (IR) spectroscopy study of a two-component supramolecular gel to assess the system´s heterogeneity ... -
Self-assembly, physico-chemical characterization, biological, virtual screening, and computational approach of novel 2-amino pyridine derivatives
Makhlouf, Jawher; El Bakri, Youness; Saravanan, Kandasamy; Valkonen, Arto; Smirani, Wajda (Elsevier BV, 2023)Two novel compounds, [Zn(SCN)4] (C5H7N2)2 (I) and (C5H7N2)NCS (II), were successfully synthesized and grown at room temperature by slow evaporation. The investigation of compound's properties was occurred using various ... -

Probing the self-assembly and anti-glioblastoma efficacy of a cinnamoyl-capped dipeptide hydrogelator
Sitsanidis, E. D.; Kasapidou, P. M.; Hiscock, J. R.; Gubala, V.; Castel, H.; Popoola, P. I. A.; Hall, A. J.; Edwards, A. A. (Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), 2022)Herein, we introduce the first diphenylalanine dipeptide hydrogelator capped with the cinnamoyl functional group (Cin-L-F-L-F). We evaluate the effects of the cinnamoyl moiety on molecular self-assembly events and resultant ... -
Self-assembly of metallosupramolecular rhombi from chiral concave 9,9'-spirobifluorene-derived bis(pyridine) ligands
Hovorka, Rainer; Hytteballe, Sophie; Piehler, Torsten; Meyer-Eppler, Georg; Topic, Filip; Rissanen, Kari; Engeser, Marianne; Lützen, Arne (Beilstein - Institut zur Foerderung der Chemischen Wissenschaften, 2014)Two new 9,9’-spirobifluorene-based bis(4-pyridines) were synthesised in enantiopure and one also in racemic form. These ligands act as concave templates and form metallosupramolecular [(dppp)₂M₂L₂] rhombi with cis-protected ...
