The combined use of theoretical and mathematical methods in the analysis of electron paramagnetic resonance data has greatly increased the ability to interpret even the most complex spectra reported for doublet state inorganic main group radicals. This personal account summarizes the theoretical basis of such an approach and provides an in-depth discussion of some recent illustrative examples of the utilization of this methodology in practical applications. The emphasis is on displaying the enormous potential embodied within the approach.

Theoretical Investigation of Paramagnetic Diazabutadiene Gallium(III)−Pnictogen Complexes: Insights into the Interpretation and Simulation of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectra
Tuononen, Heikki; Armstrong, Andrea (ACS, 2005)The electronic structures and the spin density distributions of the paramagnetic gallium 1,4-diaza(1,3)butadiene (DAB) model systems {(tBu-DAB)Ga(I)[Pn(SiH3)2]}• and the related dipnictogen species {(tBu-DAB)Ga[Pn(SiH3)2]2}• ... -
Experimental and computational studies of unconventional main group compounds : stable radicals and reactive intermediates
Hurmalainen, Juha (University of Jyväskylä, 2017)Ever since their discovery, radicals have intrigued the minds of experimental and theoretical chemists alike. While the vast majority of radicals are transient species, a large number of stable and persistent radicals ... -
Single crystal investigations, spectral analysis, DFT studies, antioxidants, and molecular docking investigations of novel hexaisothiocyanato chromate complex
Makhlouf, Jawher; Louis, Hitler; Benjamin, Innocent; Ukwenya, Elizabeth; Valkonen, Arto; Smirani, Wajda (Elsevier, 2023)We successfully synthesized 3D supramolecular structure of 2-Amino-6-methyl piridinium hexaisothiocyanatochromate (III) complex, (C6H9N2)3 [Cr(SCN)6].H2O. The structure of the synthesized material was confirmed by single ... -
Electronic and vibrational spectroscopic studies of gold-nanoclusters
Koivisto, Jaakko (University of Jyväskylä, 2016)Gold nanoclusters are a peculiar new material with properties between that of bulk metal and single atoms. They show size-dependent evolution of optical and electronic properties sensitive to the change of single atom ... -
Electron spectroscopy with the SAGE spectrometer
Sorri, Juha (University of Jyväskylä, 2016)A device called the SAGE (Silicon And GErmanium) spectrometer, designed for in-beam electron spectroscopy, is introduced in this work. A detailed description to the technical aspects of the device is given along with ...
