Nearly ten years ago, we wrote a paper that presented a roadmap to the Programmable World in the context of the Internet of Things. In that paper, we defined a future roadmap that started from cloud-centric, data-centric IoT systems to a world where everyday objects are connected and the edge of the network is universally programmable. In this paper, we revisit the predictions of our earlier paper and evaluate how well we succeeded in forecasting what actually happened. In addition, we take a look towards the future over the next ten years.

Towards Seamless IoT Device-Edge-Cloud Continuum : Software Architecture Options of IoT Devices Revisited
Taivalsaari, Antero; Mikkonen, Tommi; Pautasso, Cesare (Springer, 2022)In this paper we revisit a taxonomy of client-side IoT software architectures that we presented a few years ago. We note that the emergence of inexpensive AI/ML hardware and new communication technologies are broadening ... -
Tiny Machine Learning for Resource-Constrained Microcontrollers
Immonen, Riku; Hämäläinen, Timo (Hindawi Limited, 2022)We use 250 billion microcontrollers daily in electronic devices that are capable of running machine learning models inside them. Unfortunately, most of these microcontrollers are highly constrained in terms of computational ... -

Kallio, Heli (2017)Tietotekniikkaa sisältävät lääkintälaitteet pitävät meidät hengissä, jos kehomme pettää. Esimerkiksi ostoskeskuksissa olevat älykkäät defibrillaattorit antavat maallikoillekin mahdollisuuden antaa tehokasta ensiapua ... -
Reunalaskennan tietoturva nykyaikaisessa ajoneuvossa
Incentive Mechanism for Edge Computing-based Blockchain : A Sequential Game Approach
Guo, Wenlong; Chang, Zheng; Guo, Xijuan; Wu, Peiliang; Han, Zhu (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2022)The development of the blockchain framework is able to provide feasible solutions for a wide range of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications. While the IIoT devices are usually resource-limited, how to make sure ...
