In this work, we present a study of ordinary muon capture (OMC) on 136136Ba, the daughter nucleus of 136136Xe double beta decay (DBD). The OMC rates at low-lying nuclear states (below 1 MeV of excitation energy) in 136136Cs are assessed by using both the interacting shell model (ISM) and proton–neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA). We also add chiral two-body (2BC) meson-exchange currents and use an exact Dirac wave function for the captured s-orbital muon. OMC can be viewed as a complementary probe of the wave functions in 136136Cs, the intermediate nucleus of the 136136Xe DBD. At the same time, OMC can be considered a powerful probe of the effective values of weak axial-type couplings in a 100 MeV momentum exchange region, which is relevant for neutrinoless DBD. The present work represents the first attempt to compare the ISM and pnQRPA results for OMC on a heavy nucleus while also including the exact muon wave function and the 2BC. The sensitivity estimates of the current and future neutrinoless DBD experiments will clearly benefit from future OMC measurements taken using OMC calculations similar to the one presented here.

Calculated solar-neutrino capture rate for a radiochemical 205Tl-based solar-neutrino detector
Kostensalo, Joel; Suhonen, Jouni; Zuber, K. (American Physical Society, 2020)Radiochemical experiments for low-energy solar-neutrino detection have been making headlines by exploiting the isotopes 37Cl and 71Ga. Such a very low-threshold measurement of this type can also be performed using 205Tl, ... -
Dimuons from neutrino-nucleus collisions in the semi-inclusive DIS approach
Helenius, Ilkka; Paukkunen, Hannu; Yrjänheikki, Sami (Springer Nature, 2024)We present a next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculation of dimuon production in neutrino-nucleus collisions. This process is typically calculated by assuming it to be proportional to inclusive charm production, ... -
Estimated solar-neutrino capture rates of 131Xe : implications for multi-tonne Xe-based experiments
Kostensalo, J.; Suhonen, J.; Zuber, K. (Institute of Physics, 2021)Various large-scale experiments for double beta decay or dark matter are based on xenon. Current experiments are on the tonne scale, but future ideas also aim for even larger sizes. Here we study the potential of the isotope ... -
Theoretical predictions of wimp-nucleus and neutrino-nucleus scattering in context of dark matter direct detection
Pirinen, Pekka (University of Jyväskylä, 2018)The nature of dark matter is at present an open question. Assuming the main component of dark matter consists of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), directly detecting such particle via a scattering process ... -
Neutral-current supernova-neutrino cross sections for 204,206,208Pb calculated by Skyrme quasiparticle random-phase approximation
Almosly, Wafa; Carlsson, B. G.; Suhonen, Jouni; Ydrefors, E. (American Physical Society, 2019)The present work constitutes a detailed study of neutral-current (NC) supernova-neutrino scattering off the stable even-even lead isotopes 204,206,208Pb. This is a continuation of our previous work [Almosly et al., Phys. ...
