In-flight recoil separators RITU and MARA at Jyväskylä Accelerator Laboratory are complementary devices to separate the fusion-evaporation residues from the primary beam and other reaction products. The nuclear-structure-research program at Jyväskylä utilizes these separators and the detector setups shared between the separators to identify weak reaction channels and extract nuclear-structure information via decay experiments and in-beam spectroscopic studies. For example the very weak N∼Z nuclei are studied in-beam by using 𝛽-decay tagging method (Tuike scintillator) enhanced with the mass selection (MARA) and charge particle-evaporation veto (JYTube).

(Elsevier; North-Holland, 2019)Fast-timing measurements at the focal plane of a separator can suffer from poor timing resolution. This is due to the variations in time-of-flight (ToF) for photons travelling to a given detector, which arise from the ... -
Instrumentation for time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis
Julin, Jaakko (University of Jyväskylä, 2016)Time-of-flight elastic recoil detection is an ion beam based method to analyze the elemental composition of thin film samples at different depths. In order to improve the mass resolution and to enable kinematic correction ... -

(Elsevier, 2024)This letter reports on the first observation of an octupole band in the neutron-deficient (N = Z + 2) nucleus 110Xe. The 110Xe nuclei were produced via the 54Fe(58Ni,2n) fusion-evaporation reaction. The emitted γ rays were ... -
Event plane determination with the new ALICE FIT detector
Rytkönen, Heidi Maria (Sissa Medialab, 2021)During the on-going second long shutdown of LHC, the forward detectors of the ALICE experiment are implementing an extensive upgrade. In particular, a new Fast Interaction Trigger (FIT) has been designed and built. It ... -
Gas-phase chemistry, recoil source characterization and in-gas-cell resonance laser ionization of actinides at IGISOL
Pohjalainen, Ilkka (University of Jyväskylä, 2018)The underlying theme of this thesis focuses on buffer gas purification and relevant gas-phase ion chemistry which critically affects ion beam purity at gas cell-based radioactive ion beam facilities. The achievement of ...
