The new framework for the simulations of hard diffractive events in photoproduction within Pythia 8 is presented. The model, originally introduced for proton-proton collisions, applies the dynamical rapidity gap survival probability based on the multiparton interaction model in Pythia. These additional interactions provide a natural explanation for the observed factorization-breaking effects in hard diffraction by filling up the rapidity gaps used to classify the events of diffractive origin. The generated cross sections are well in line with the existing data from HERA experiments and predictions for the future electron-ion collider are presented. In addition, also predictions for ultra-peripheral collisions at the LHC have been calculated where the factorization-breaking effects are found to be more pronounced.

Hadron-ion collisions in Pythia and the vector-meson dominance model for photoproduction
Helenius, Ilkka; Utheim, Marius (Springer Nature, 2024)We present an extension to the Pythia Monte Carlo event generator that enables simulations of collisions between a generic hadron beam on a nuclear target with energy variation in event-by-event basis. This builds upon ... -
Hard diffraction in photoproduction with Pythia 8
Helenius, Ilkka; Rasmussen, Christine O. (Springer, 2019)We present a new framework for modeling hard diffractive events in photoproduction, implemented in the general purpose event generator Pythia 8. The model is an extension of the model for hard diffraction with dynamical gap ... -

The program is most often used to generate high-energy-physics ... -
Pythia 8 as hadronic interaction model in air shower simulations
Reininghaus, Maximilian; Sjöstrand, Torbjörn; Utheim, Marius (EDP Sciences, 2023)Hadronic interaction models are a core ingredient of simulations of extensive air showers and pose the major source of uncertainties of predictions of air shower observables. Recently, Pythia 8, a hadronic interaction model ... -
Preparation of potentially porous, chiral organometallic materials through spontaneous resolution of pincer palladium conformers
Johnson, Magnus T.; Dzolic, Zoran; Cetina, Mario; Lahtinen, Manu; Ahlquist, Mårten S. G.; Rissanen, Kari; Öhrström, Lars; Wendt, Ola F. (Royal Society of Chemistry, 2013)Understanding the mechanism by which advanced materials assemble is essential for the design of new materials with desired properties. Here, we report a method to form chiral, potentially porous materials through spontaneous ...
