This dataset includes four files of DNA sequence baits targeted to ultra-conserved elements (UCEs) identified from four different taxonomic groups of marine invertebrates: Annelida, Bivalvia, Gastropoda and Crustacea. UCE loci are genomic regions of high conservation that can be found throughout the genomes that can be extracted from the genome and sequenced for use in phylogenetic, phylogeographic and population genetic analyses. The UCE loci were located by aligning a minimum of five species’ genomes to a base genome in each taxonomic group and searching for overlapping highly conserved areas. The UCE baits were designed with screening coverage of 4X using the pipeline phyluce v. 1.6.6 (https://github.com/faircloth-lab/phyluce; Faircloth 2015). The analysis generated 3316 baits for 590 conserved loci in annelids, 4110 baits for 519 loci in bivalves, 25547 baits for 4367 loci in gastropods and 27545 baits for 3755 conserved loci in crustaceans. A final set of 3000 baits per taxonomic group (12000 baits in total) was created by Arbor Biosciences (Ann Arbor, MI, USA, arborbiosci.com) using their myBaits probe design support. For more detailed documentation, see the downloadable dataset description file.

(Public Library of Science (PLoS), 2024)Long-read sequencing is driving rapid progress in genome assembly across all major groups of life, including species of the family Drosophilidae, a longtime model system for genetics, genomics, and evolution. We previously ... -
Opposing health effects of hybridization for conservation
Klemme, Ines; Hendrikx, Lysanne; Ashrafi, Roghaieh; Sundberg, Lotta‐Riina; Räihä, Ville; Piironen, Jorma; Hyvärinen, Pekka; Karvonen, Anssi (Wiley, 2021)The continuing decline of many natural plant and animal populations emphasizes the importance of conservation strategies. Hybridization as a management tool has proven successful in introducing gene flow to small, inbred ... -
Can manipulation of ungulate herbivory facilitate biodiversity conservation for forest vegetation and invertebrates?
Macdonald, Ellen; Löhmus, Asko; Bernes, Claes; Junninen, Kaisa; Macura, Biljana; Müller, Jörg; Sandström, Jennie; Jonsson, Bengt-Gunnar (Open Science Centre, University of Jyväskylä, 2018)Livestock grazing and ‘overabundance’ of large wild herbivores in forests have long been perceived as conflicting with the aims of both silviculture and forest conservation; however, herbivory can also help to maintain ... -
Metabolic and genomic characteristics of bank voles exposed to radionuclides
Jernfors, Toni (Jyväskylän yliopisto, 2022)Organisms defend against external disturbances using various metabolic and genomic methods. Organisms experience stress when the disturbances grow severe enough to debilitate survival or reproduction. Low dose ionising ... -
Complete Genome Sequence of Fish Pathogen Flavobacterium columnare Strain B185, Originating from Finland
Ravantti, Janne J.; Laanto, Elina; Papponen, Petri; Sundberg, Lotta-Riina (American Society for Microbiology, 2019)We report a complete genome sequence of a Finnish isolate of the fish pathogen Flavobacterium columnare.
