Vastaako koulutus työelämän vaatimuksia ja löytyykö työpaikkaa omalta alalta? : vuosina 2010–2020 valmistuneiden liikunnan yhteiskuntatieteiden maistereiden kokemuksia koulutuksesta ja työllistymisestä.

Abstract

Liikuntahallinnon, nykyään liikunnan yhteiskuntatieteiden, koulutusohjelmasta on perinteisesti työllistytty julkisen sektorin virkoihin. Yhteiskunnalliset muutokset ja tiukka taloustilanne ovat pienentäneet julkista sektoria ja sen roolia työnantajana, joka osaltaan on luonut epävarmuutta työllistymisestä tutkintoa suorittaville. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten liikunnan yhteiskuntatieteistä vuosina 2010–2020 valmistuneet maisterit ovat työllistyneet. Tutkimuskohteena oli myös, vastaako liikunnan yhteiskuntatieteiden koulutusohjelma tämän

hetken työelämän tarpeita ja onko se antanut riittävät valmiudet toimia asiantuntijana liikunta- alalla.

Tutkimus toteutettiin sähköisesti lomaketutkimuksena osana liikuntatieteellisen tiedekunnan koulutus- ja osaamistarvekyselyä. Aineistonkeruu tapahtui marras-joulukuussa 2020. Tavoiteltu kohdejoukko oli vuosina 2010–2020 valmistuneet 141 liikunnan yhteiskuntatieteiden maisteria, joista kyselyyn vastasi 75 henkilöä (53 %). Valmistuneilta kysyttiin muun muassa heidän työpaikastaan, työsuhteen laadusta sekä työelämässä tarvittavista tiedoista ja taidoista. Tämän lisäksi selvitettiin liikunnan yhteiskuntatieteiden maisterin tutkinnon merkitystä työllistymisen kannalta ja sitä, mitkä osa-alueet vastaajat kokivat tärkeiksi niin työllistymisessä kuin työelämässä pärjäämisessä. Samalla pyrittiin löytämään mahdollisia kehityskohteita koulutusohjelman työelämävastaavuudelle.

Työelämässä oli vastausajankohdalla 96 prosenttia vastaajista. Liikunta-alalla työskentelevien osuus oli 77 prosenttia. Kolmas sektori oli työnantajatahoista eniten työllistävä 44 prosentin osuudella. Julkisella sektorilla työskenteli 32 prosenttia ja yksityisellä sektorilla 23 prosenttia vastaajista. Valtaosa työpaikoista sijaitsi joko Uudellamaalla tai Keski-Suomessa. Keskimääräinen bruttopalkka oli tyyppiarvoltaan 2501–3300 euroa kuukaudessa. Työuran kannalta merkityksellisiksi taidoiksi arvostettiin eniten organisointikykyä, kirjallista ilmaisua ja suullista esiintymistä. Omaan ammattitaitoon ja tähänastiseen työuraan osoitettiin eniten tyytyväisyyttä, vähiten puolestaan palkkaukseen. Työllistymisessä vastaajat näkivät tärkeimpänä vaikuttavana tekijänä tutkintoon sisältyneen työharjoittelun. Liikunta-alan töissä pysymisen melko tai erittäin todennäköisenä näki 35 prosenttia, kun taas alanvaihtoa harkitsi 38 prosenttia vastaajista. Opintosisällöistä merkityksellisimpinä työuran kannalta koettiin liikunnan kansalaistoiminta, liikuntahallinto ja -politiikka sekä liikunnan talous.

Tutkimustuloksista on hyötyä koulutukseen hakemista harkitseville, alaa jo opiskeleville ja koulutusohjelman toteutuksesta vastaaville. Kolmannen sektorin koko näkyy niin sektoriin liittyvän koulutuksen opintosisällön tärkeänä kokemisessa kuin työpaikkamäärissä.

The graduates of Social Sciences of Sport have traditionally been employed in public sector positions. Societal changes and the tight economic situation have reduced the public sector and its role as an employer, which has contributed to job insecurity for graduates. The purpose of this study was to find out how graduates of the Social Sciences of Sport in 2010–2020 have been employed. The study also focused on whether the degree program in the Social Sciences of Sport meets the needs of current working life and whether it has provided sufficient capacity to act as an expert in the sport sector.

The form survey was conducted electronically. The data collection took place in November- December 2020. The target group was 141 Masters of Social Sciences of Sport who graduated between years 2010–2020, of whom 75 people (53 %) responded to the survey. The graduates were asked about, among other things, their job, the quality of the employment relationship and the knowledge and skills needed in working life. In addition, the significance of the master’s degree in Social Sciences of Sports in terms of employment was studied, and which areas were considered important by the respondents in terms of both employment and success in working life. At the same time, efforts were made to find possible areas for development for the degree program to better meet the requirements of working life.

At the time of the response, 96 per cent of the respondents had a work. The share of those working in the sports sector at the time of the response was 77 %. The third sector was the most employing of employers, with a share of 44 per cent. 32 per cent of respondents worked in the public sector and 23 per cent in the private sector. Most of the jobs located in either Uusimaa or Central Finland area. The average gross salary was between 2,501 and 3,300 euros per month. The most important skills for the career were organizational skills, written expression, and oral presentation. Satisfaction with one's own professional skills and career to date was shown the most and lowest for the pay. Respondents saw the internship included in the degree as the most important influencing factor in employment. 35 per cent saw changing the job away from the sports sector as fairly or very unlikely, while 38 per cent of respondents considered changing jobs away from the sports sector. Among the study contents, civic activities in sports, sports administration and policy, and the economics of sports were the most relevant for a career.

The results of the research can help to outline those who are considering applying for the education, who are already studying it, and the staff of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences in planning their teaching. The size of the third sector is reflected both in the experienced importance of study content related to the sector and in the number of jobs.
