When considering new technologies and innovations, organizations should aim to the stage of institutionalization among individuals using the innovation in order to receive the best return for their IT investment. Unlike large and mature systems, the institutionalization process of emerging technologies and/or newer technological innovations, such as minimum-viable products (MVPs) are still not widely understood within information systems research. Factors impacting on the institutionalization process were examined in this research from three levels of factors: system, organizational and individual level factors. This research aimed to understand which of these factors impact on the institutionalization process of an MVP stage digital service in an organization at an individual level. In order to examine the factors, a longitudinal case study was conducted between October 2020 and April 2021. Qualitative data was collected with two interview rounds from six participants inside the case organization. The results indicated that individual level factors have the most positive impact on the institutionalization process, whereas organizational level factors had the most negative impact. Also, there was a relationship between individual motivation and organizational level factors. By focusing on the organizational level factors and improving them, managers have the potential to influence that the technology is being successfully institutionalized in their organization.
