Terveydenhuollon digitalisaatio ja sen tuomat hyödyt ja haasteet

Abstract

Terveydenhuollon digitalisaatiossa ja digitaalisissa ratkaisuissa on nähty jo pitkään potentiaalia parantaa hoidon laatua, tukea alan ammattilaisia, parantaa organisaatioiden kustannustehokkuutta ja vähentää syntyviä virheitä. Terveydenhuollon digitaaliset ratkaisut on merkittävä kiinnostuksen ja panostuksen kohde niin Suomessa kuin myös maailmanlaajuisesti – monelle maalle jopa terveydenhuollon tärkein kehityskohde. Tämän kandidaatintutkielman tavoitteena oli selvittää mitä terveydenhuollon digitalisaatiossa on tapahtunut ja mitä haasteita ja hyötyjä uudet teknologiat ja digitaaliset ratkaisut ovat tuoneet. Tutkielma on toteutettu kirjallisuuskatsauksena käyttäen aineistoja terveydenhuoltoon, digitalisaatioon, tietojärjestelmiin ja niiden yhdistelmiin liittyen. Aihe on ajankohtainen monella tapaa: Suomessa on meneillään sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon uudistus, yhteiskunta ikääntyy ja informaatioteknologian merkitys on kasvanut entisestään. Tutkimuksen tuloksina voidaan todeta, että terveydenhuollon tietojärjestelmät ovat haastava, mutta lupaava aihealue niin lääketieteelliselle tutkimukselle ja koulutukselle, organisaatioille ja yrityksille kuin yhteiskunnalle ja kansalaisille nyt ja tulevaisuudessa. Terveydenhuollon digitaaliset ratkaisut ovat kriittisiä, koska virheet voivat aiheuttaa isojakin ongelmia tai ihmishengen vaarantumista. Digitalisaation vaikutukset terveydenhuollossa on nähty merkittävinä ja yleisesti ottaen positiivisina, mutta potentiaalia on vielä käyttämättä. Tulevaisuudessa terveydenhuollon digitalisaatio voikin olla entistä merkittävämpi. Informaatioteknologiaa ja sen hyötyjä terveydenhuollossa on kuitenkin tutkittava lisää.

Digitalization of healthcare and digital solutions has long seen the potential to improve the quality of care, support professionals, improve the costeffectiveness of organizations and reduce errors. Digital healthcare solutions are a major area of interest and investment, both in Finland and globally – for many countries, even the most important area of healthcare development. The aim of this Bachelor’s thesis was to find out what has happened in the digitalization of healthcare and that challenges and benefits new technologies and digital solutions have brought. The thesis has been implemented as a literature review using materials related to healthcare, digitalization, information systems and their combinations. The topic is interesting in many ways: Finland is in the process of reforming its social and healthcare system, the society is aging and the importance of information technology is growing. As a result of this thesis, health information systems are a challenging but promising topic for medical research and education, organizations and companies and for society and citizens - now and in the future. Digital healthcare solutions are critical because errors can cause major problems or endanger people’s life. The impact of digitalization on healthcare is significant and have been seen mostly positive, but the potential is still untapped. In the future, the digitalization of healthcare can become even more significant. However, further research is needed on information technology and its benefits in healthcare.
