Run 3 at the CERN LHC is scheduled to start in March 2021. In preparation
for this new data taking period the ALICE experiment is making major modifications to its subsystems and is introducing three new detectors: the new Inner
Tracking System, the Muon Forward Tracker, and the Fast Interaction Trigger.
The new detectors will enhance tracking, especially at low transverse momenta,
improve vertexing, provide the required triggering, fast timing, luminosity, and
forward multiplicity functionality. For instance, it will be possible to measure
beauty from displaced J/ψ vertices down to transverse momenta pT ∼ 0 and
improve precision for the ψ(2S) measurements. The upgraded ALICE will be
able to register ten-fold increase of Pb-Pb delivered luminosity in Run 3 and
4 as well as two orders of magnitude more minimum bias events at 50 kHz in
Pb-Pb collisions.

Upgrade of ALICE forward detectors
Slupecki, Maciej (Sissa, 2019)ALICE will upgrade its subsystems in 2019−2020 to fully benefit from the increased collision rate and luminosity of the LHC at CERN. Two new forward detectors will be installed at the core of ALICE: the Fast Interaction ... -
ALICE forward rapidity upgrades
Slupecki, Maciej (Sissa, 2018)Two forward rapidity upgrades of the ALICE apparatus at the LHC are presented: the Muon Forward Tracker (MFT) and the Fast Interaction Trigger (FIT). Their designs are driven by physics performance studies, which have ... -
Fast Interaction Trigger for ALICE upgrade
Slupecki, Maciej (Elsevier, 2022)We present the structure, functionalities and the first in-beam performance of the ALICE Fast Interaction Trigger (FIT). FIT comprises three detectors: FT0, FV0 and FDD, which use Cherenkov and scintillation effects to ... -
The JUNO experiment Top Tracker
The JUNO Collaboration (Elsevier BV, 2023)The main task of the Top Tracker detector of the neutrino reactor experiment Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is to reconstruct and extrapolate atmospheric muon tracks down to the central detector. This ... -
Upgrade of OSIRIS for Future Liquid Scintillator Studies
Loo, Kai K. (Sissa, 2024)Understanding the internal radioactive background contributions in its 20 kiloton liquid scintillator (LS) target is essential for the success of the JUNO reactor neutrino experiment. OSIRIS is a 20-tonne radiopurity ...
