This paper is a survey of some arithmetic applications of techniques in the geometry and ergodic theory of negatively curved Riemannian manifolds, focusing on the joint works of the authors. We describe Diophantine approximation results of real numbers by quadratic irrational ones, and we discuss various results on the equidistribution in R , C and in the Heisenberg groups of arithmetically defined points. We explain how these results are consequences of equidistribution and counting properties of common perpendiculars between locally convex subsets in negatively curved orbifolds, proven using dynamical and ergodic properties of their geodesic flows. This exposition is based on lectures at the conference “Chaire Jean Morlet: Géométrie et systèmes dynamiques”, at the CIRM, Luminy, 2014. We thank B. Hasselblatt for his strong encouragements to write this survey.

Possibilities of mobile marketing in classical music audience development : a charting survey on classical music audiences’ willingness to adopt an orchestra branded mobile application
Piiroinen, Petra (2019)Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää, miten klassisen musiikin ja erityisesti suomalaisten orkesteri- instituutioiden yleisöt suhtautuvat mobiiliapplikaatioihin markkinoinnin ja yleisötyön työkaluna. Klassisen musiikin ... -
On the topology of surfaces with the generalised simple lift property
Tripaldi, Francesca (Springer Netherlands, 2020)In this paper, we study the geometry of surfaces with the generalised simple lift property. This work generalises previous results by Bernstein and Tinaglia (J Differ Geom 102(1):1–23, 2016) and it is motivated by the fact ... -
Application of time-dependent many-body perturbation theory to excitation spectra of selected finite model systems
Säkkinen, Niko (University of Jyväskylä, 2016)In this thesis, an approximate method introduced to solve time-dependent many-body problems known as time-dependent many-body perturbation theory is studied. Many-body perturbation theory for interacting electrons and ...
