In this contribution we first give a brief survey of postprocessing techniques for accelerating the convergence of finite element schemes for elliptic problems. We also generalize a local superconvergence technique recently analyzed by Křížek and Neittaanmäki to a global technique. Finally, we show that it is possible to obtain O(h4) accuracy for the gradient in some cases when only linear elements are used. Numerical tests are presented.

On a global superconvergence of the gradient of linear triangular elements
Křižek, Michal; Neittaanmäki, Pekka (North-Holland, 1987)We study a simple superconvergent scheme which recovers the gradient when solving a second-order elliptic problem in the plane by the usual linear elements. The recovered gradient globally approximates the true gradient ... -

Superconductive and insulating inclusions for linear and non-linear conductivity equations
Brander, Tommi; Ilmavirta, Joonas; Kar, Manas (American Institute of Mathematical Sciences, 2018)We detect an inclusion with infinite conductivity from boundary measurements represented by the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the conductivity equation. We use both the enclosure method and the probe method. We use the ... -
Linear and non-linear flow mode in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV
ALICE Collaboration (Elsevier B.V., 2017)The second and the third order anisotropic flow, V2 and V3, are mostly determined by the corresponding initial spatial anisotropy coefficients, ε2 and ε3, in the initial density distribution. In addition to their dependence ... -
Open and discrete maps with piecewise linear branch set images are piecewise linear maps
Luisto, Rami; Prywes, Eden (Wiley-Blackwell, 2021)The image of the branch set of a piecewise linear (PL)‐branched cover between PL 𝑛n‐manifolds is a simplicial (𝑛−2)(n−2)‐complex. We demonstrate that the reverse implication also holds: an open and discrete map ...
