This paper reviews intuitive software design and outlines the development of an
instrument for analysts to evaluate the intuitiveness of software design. Current intuition
research outlines three requirements for intuitive use: (a) existing experiential domain
knowledge and skills, (b) an unexplainable perception that a novel situation is contextually
familiar, and (c) successful application of users’ previously acquired experiential
knowledge and skills. A case study illustrates how these requirements can be specified,
implemented, and evaluated. Questions to evaluate the characteristics of intuitive design
and use resulted in an intuitive use evaluation of 3.2 on a scale of 0–4, indicating a
perception of intuitive use. Subsequent factor analysis exposed three factors describing
intuitive use: (a) Familiar User Expectations, (b) Confident Interactions, and (c) Leverage
of Prior Learning. These factors map one-on-one to the requirements for intuitive use:
providing an early confirmation of the proposed structure for analysis of intuitive software
design and use.

Evidence-based programming language design : a philosophical and methodological exploration
Kaijanaho, Antti-Juhani (University of Jyväskylä, 2015)Background: Programming language design is not usually informed by empirical studies. In other fields similar problems have inspired an evidence-based paradigm of practice. Such a paradigm is practically inevitable in ... -
Building Bridges - How secondary school pupils bring their informal learning experiences into a Content and Language Integrated (CLIL) classroom
Jakonen, Teppo (Centre for Applied Language Studies, University of Jyväskylä, 2014)This article explores how students’ informal language learning experiences with English find their way into the formal context of content-based language teaching (CLIL). The analysis is focused on stretches of classroom ... -
Comparing technology acceptance of K‐12 teachers with and without prior experience of learning management systems : A Covid‐19 pandemic study
Dindar, Muhterem; Suorsa, Anna; Hermes, Jan; Karppinen, Pasi; Näykki, Piia (Wiley, 2021)Covid-19 pandemic has caused a massive transformation in K-12 settings towards online education. It is important to explore the factors that facilitate online teaching technology adoption of teachers during the pandemic. ... -
An Information Systems Design Product Theory for Software Project Estimation and Measurement Systems
Forselius, Pekka; Käkölä, Timo (IEEE, 2009)There is relatively little research on software Project Estimation and Measurement Systems (PEMS). Commercial PEMS vary in functionality and effectiveness. Their intended users thus do not know what to expect from PEMS ... -
