We review the recent progress in extracting the proton fluctuating substructure by studying exclusive processes at HERA, and the applications of these developments in the interpretation of
the LHC heavy ion data. The possibilities to extract the proton geometry directly from the LHC
high-multiplicity proton-nucleus and proton-proton collision data is also discussed.

Double D-meson production in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions at the LHC
Helenius, Ilkka; Paukkunen, Hannu (Elsevier BV, 2020)We consider the simultaneous production of two heavy-flavoured hadrons – particularly D mesons – at the LHC. We base our calculations on collinearly factorized QCD at next-to-leading order, using the contemporary parton ... -
Dielectron and heavy-quark production in inelastic and high-multiplicity proton–proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
ALICE Collaboration (Elsevier B.V., 2019)The measurement of dielectron production is presented as a function of invariant mass and transverse momentum (pT) at midrapidity (|ye| < 0.8) in proton–proton (pp) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV. ... -
Forward rapidity isolated photon production in proton-nucleus collisions
Ducloué, B.; Lappi, Tuomas; Mäntysaari, Heikki (Elsevier BV, 2019)We calculate isolated photon production at forward rapidities in proton-nucleus collisions in the Color Glass Condensate framework. Our calculation uses dipole cross sections solved from the running coupling Balitsky-Kovchegov ... -
Measurement of the non-prompt D-meson fraction as a function of multiplicity in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
ALICE Collaboration (Springer, 2023)The fractions of non-prompt (i.e. originating from beauty-hadron decays) D0 and D+ mesons with respect to the inclusive yield are measured as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity in proton-proton collisions at ... -
Evolution of eccentricities induced by geometrical and quantum fluctuations in proton-nucleus collisions
Demirci, S.; Guerrero-Rodríguez, P. (American Physical Society (APS), 2023)We compute the azimuthal eccentricities arising from initial stage fluctuations in high energy proton-nucleus collisions at proper times τ≥0+. We consider two sources of fluctuations, namely the geometrical structure of ...
