Large liquid xenon detectors aiming for dark matter direct detection will soon become viable tools also for investigating neutrino physics. Information on the effects of nuclear structure in neutrino-nucleus scattering can be important in distinguishing neutrino backgrounds in such detectors. We perform calculations for differential and total cross sections of neutral-current neutrino scattering off the most abundant xenon isotopes. The nuclear-structure calculations are made in the nuclear shell model for elastic scattering and also in the quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) and microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model (MQPM) for both elastic and inelastic scattering. Using suitable neutrino energy distributions, we compute estimates of total averaged cross sections for B solar neutrinos and supernova neutrinos.

Neutral-current supernova neutrino-nucleus scattering off 127I and 133Cs
Hellgren, Matti; Suhonen, Jouni (American Physical Society (APS), 2022)A large number of the presently running neutrino and dark-matter experiments use thallium-doped cesium-iodide CsI[Tl] crystals, sodium-doped cesium-iodide CsI[Na] crystals, or thallium-doped sodium-iodide NaI[Tl] crystals. ... -
Neutral current supernova neutrino-nucleus scattering off 127I and 133Cs
Hellgren, Matti (2020)Tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin astrofysikaalisten neutriinojen sirontaa stabiileista jodi- ja caesium ytimistä 127I and 133Cs, tarkoituksena arvioida kyseisten ytimien hyödyntämisen mahdollisuutta neutriinojen havaitsemisessa. ... -
Theoretical predictions of wimp-nucleus and neutrino-nucleus scattering in context of dark matter direct detection
Pirinen, Pekka (University of Jyväskylä, 2018)The nature of dark matter is at present an open question. Assuming the main component of dark matter consists of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), directly detecting such particle via a scattering process ... -
Charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering off 127I and 133Cs
Hellgren, Matti; Suhonen, Jouni (American Physical Society (APS), 2024)Calculations of (anti)neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections are vital since experimental results for these cross sections for terrestrial-based (anti)neutrino sources in the low-to-intermediate energy ranges are ... -
Charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering off Xe isotopes
Pirinen, Pekka; Suhonen, Jouni; Ydrefors, E. (American Physical Society, 2019)Xenon detectors are used in the search for dark matter and neutrinoless double-beta decay ( 0 ν β β ) . As the next-generation detectors reach masses in the ton scale, neutrinos from astrophysical sources are soon ...
