Calculations of (anti)neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections are vital since experimental results for these cross sections for terrestrial-based (anti)neutrino sources in the low-to-intermediate energy ranges are exceedingly rare. A recent measurement of the scattering of stopped-pion neutrinos off 127I by the COHERENT Collaboration yielded a cross section that was only 41% of the expected theoretical prediction. Inspired by this, we have computed the cross sections for (anti)neutrino scatterings off 127I and 133Cs by considering also the effect of the quenching of the weak axial coupling gA on the results. Two quenching schemes, a conservative and a radical estimate, were considered. The cross sections as functions of the neutrino energy are presented along with folded cross sections for stopped-pion and supernova (anti)neutrino spectra. The nuclear model used was the microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model based on large single-particle model spaces and realistic G-matrix-based effective two-body interactions. The obtained inclusive cross sections for stopped-pion neutrino scattering off 127I are in good agreement with the experimental results. The results indicate that discrepancy between the experimental and theoretical results could be at least partly explained by the quenching of gA.

Neutral-current supernova neutrino-nucleus scattering off 127I and 133Cs
Hellgren, Matti; Suhonen, Jouni (American Physical Society (APS), 2022)A large number of the presently running neutrino and dark-matter experiments use thallium-doped cesium-iodide CsI[Tl] crystals, sodium-doped cesium-iodide CsI[Na] crystals, or thallium-doped sodium-iodide NaI[Tl] crystals. ... -
Theoretical predictions of wimp-nucleus and neutrino-nucleus scattering in context of dark matter direct detection
Pirinen, Pekka (University of Jyväskylä, 2018)The nature of dark matter is at present an open question. Assuming the main component of dark matter consists of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), directly detecting such particle via a scattering process ... -
Neutral current supernova neutrino-nucleus scattering off 127I and 133Cs
Hellgren, Matti (2020)Tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin astrofysikaalisten neutriinojen sirontaa stabiileista jodi- ja caesium ytimistä 127I and 133Cs, tarkoituksena arvioida kyseisten ytimien hyödyntämisen mahdollisuutta neutriinojen havaitsemisessa. ... -
Neutral-Current Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering off Xe Isotopes
Pirinen, Pekka; Suhonen, Jouni; Ydrefors, E. (Hindawi, 2018)Large liquid xenon detectors aiming for dark matter direct detection will soon become viable tools also for investigating neutrino physics. Information on the effects of nuclear structure in neutrino-nucleus scattering can ... -
Dimuons from neutrino-nucleus collisions in the semi-inclusive DIS approach
Helenius, Ilkka; Paukkunen, Hannu; Yrjänheikki, Sami (Springer Nature, 2024)We present a next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculation of dimuon production in neutrino-nucleus collisions. This process is typically calculated by assuming it to be proportional to inclusive charm production, ...
