Eikonal minijet model for proton-proton collisions
Tässä tutkielmassa johdettiin minijettimalli suurienergiaisille protoni-protoni -törmäyksille eikonaaliformalismissa. Mallia testattiin numeerisen laskennan keinoin kokeellisilla tuloksilla protoni-protoni -törmäyksien elastisista, epäelastisista ja kokonaisvaikutusaloista keskeisliikemääräkoordinaatiston energiaskaalassa sqrt(s)=0.1..100 TeV. Myös viimeisimpiä CERN-LHC -kiihdyttimen mittaustuloksia tarkasteltiin. Numeerisen analyysin yhtenä osana tutkittiin myös yhden efektiivisen aliprosessin approksimaatiota, joka osoittautui tutkituilla energioilla hyvin tarkaksi. Lisäksi tarkasteltiin moninkertaisen kaksijettituoton roolia protoni-protoni -törmäysten epäelastisessa vaikutusalassa. An eikonal minijet model for high energy proton-proton collisions was discussed and numerically tested. The testing was done against data gathered on elastic, inelastic, and total cross-sections in proton-proton collisions at the centre of momentum frame energy scale of sqrt(s)=0.1..100 TeV, including the latest CERN-LHC measurements. As a part of the numerical analysis, the validity of the single effective subprocess approximation was examined, and the contributions of multiple dijet production to the inelastic cross-section were calculated separately. The analytically simplistic eikonal minijet model performed surprisingly well in the data comparison when the width of the gluon cloud was chosen large enough. Also, the single effective subprocess approximation was demonstrated to work to a very good accuracy at the energy scales studied.
