Measurements have been performed on a time-of-flight setup at the Jyv¨askyl¨a K130 cyclotron, aiming at energy-loss straggling of heavy ions in gases. Theoretical predictions based on recently developed theory as well as an empirical interpolation formula predict that straggling can be more than ten times higher than Bohr straggling in the MeV/u regime. Our measurements with up to 9.3 MeV/u Kr ions on He, N2, Ne and Kr targets confirm this feature. Our calculations show the relative contributions of linear straggling, bunching including packing, and charge exchange. Our results for stopping cross sections are compatible with values from the literature.

Effect of a Rigid Sulfonamide Bond on Molecular Folding: A Case Study Suhonen, Aku; Morgan, Ian; Nauha, Elisa; Helttunen, Kaisa; Tuononen, Heikki; Nissinen, Maija (American Chemical Society, 2015)A disulfonamide compound with bulky aromatic side chains was prepared, and its properties as a potential building block for foldamers were evaluated. Two different solvate crystal forms of the compound were identified and ...

Energy loss and straggling of MeV Si ions in gases Vockenhuber, C.; Arstila, Kai; Jensen, J.; Julin, Jaakko; Kettunen, Heikki; Laitinen, Mikko; Rossi, Mikko; Sajavaara, Timo; Thöni, M.; Whitlow, H. J. (Elsevier BV, 2017)We present measurements of energy loss and straggling of Si ions in gases. An energy range from 0.5 to 12 MeV/u was covered using the 6 MV EN tandem accelerator at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, and the K130 cyclotron accelerator ...

Removal of molecular contamination in low-energy RIBs by the isolation-dissociation-isolation method Greiner, Florian; Dickel, Timo; Andrés, Samuel Ayet San; Bergmann, Julian; Constantin, Paul; Ebert, Jens; Geissel, Hans; Haettner, Emma; Hornung, Christine; Miskun, Ivan; Lippert, Wayne; Mardor, Israel; Moore, Iain; Plaß, Wolfgang R.; Purushothaman, Sivaji; Rink, Ann-Kathrin; Reiter, Moritz P.; Scheidenberger, Christoph; Weick, Helmut (Elsevier BV, 2020)Experiments with low-energy rare ion beams often suffer from a large amount of molecular contaminant ions. We present the simple isolation-dissociation-isolation method to suppress this kind of contamination. The method ...
