We apply high-quality discretizations to simulate
electromagnetic microwaves. Instead of the vector field presentations,
we focus on differential forms and discretize the model
in the spatial domain using the discrete exterior calculus. At the
discrete level, both the Hodge operators and the time discretization
are optimized for time-harmonic simulations. Non-uniform
spatial and temporal discretization are applied in problems in
which the wavelength is highly-variable and geometry contains
sub-wavelength structures.

Torgovkin, Andrii; Chaudhuri, Saumyadip; Ruhtinas, Aki; Lahtinen, Manu; Sajavaara, Timo; Maasilta, Ilari (IOP Publishing, 2018)Superconducting titanium nitride (TiN) thin films were deposited on magnesium oxide, sapphire and silicon nitride substrates at 700 °C, using a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique, where infrared (1064 nm) pulses from ... -
Characterization of Intervertebral Disc Changes in Asymptomatic Individuals with Distinct Physical Activity Histories Using Three Different Quantitative MRI Techniques
Belavy, Daniel L.; Brisby, Helena; Douglas, Benjamin; Hebelka, Hanna; Quittner, Matthew J.; Owen, Patrick J.; Rantalainen, Timo; Trudel, Guy; Lagerstrand, Kerstin M. (MDPI, 2020)(1) Background: Assessments of intervertebral disc (IVD) changes, and IVD tissue adaptations due to physical activity, for example, remains challenging. Newer magnetic resonance imaging techniques can quantify detailed ... -
A reliable incremental method of computing the limit load in deformation plasticity based on compliance : Continuous and discrete setting
Haslinger, Jaroslav; Repin, Sergey; Sysala, Stanislav (Elsevier BV * North-Holland; Computational and Applied Mathematics Group, 2016)The aim of this paper is to introduce an enhanced incremental procedure that can be used for the numerical evaluation and reliable estimation of the limit load. A conventional incremental method of limit analysis is based ... -
Psychometric Properties of the Scoliosis Research Society Questionnaire (Version 22r) Domains Among Adults With Spinal Deformity : A Rasch Measurement Theory Analysis
Kyrölä, Kati; Hiltunen, Susanna; Uimonen, Mikko M.; Ylinen, Jari; Häkkinen, Arja; Repo, Jussi P. (The Korean Spinal Neurosurgery Society, 2022)Objective: Adults with degenerative spinal deformity (ASD) have lower health-related quality of life (HRQL) compared to the general population. Applying Rasch Measurement Theory (RMT), this study tested the revised Scoliosis ... -
Bidirectional Relationship Over Time Between Body Mass Index and Fundamental Movement Skill Domains Measured by a Process-Oriented Method in Childhood : A 3-Year Longitudinal Study
Kasanen, Maria; Laukkanen, Arto; Niemistö, Donna; Tolvanen, Asko; Ortega, Francisco; Sääkslahti, Arja (Human Kinetics, 2024)The worldwide increase in childhood overweight and obesity underscores the need to study variables like fundamental movement skill (FMS) levels from early childhood. This study investigated the bidirectional longitudinal ...
