The Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) project is the proposal to use the existing LHC proton/ion
beams and construct a new electron beam line to perform high-energy electron-proton/ion
collisions. In this talk, we consider some of the physics topics that could be studied in the electronion
mode. In particular, we estimate how much the current nuclear parton distribution fits could
be improved with the deeply inelastic scattering measurements at the LHeC by including pseudodata
into a global analysis. In addition, we discuss briefly other topics that would help to better
understand some aspects of heavy-ion collisions, namely small-x physics and hadron production
with a nuclear target.

Nuclear structure functions at a future electron-ion collider
Aschenauer, E. C.; Fazio, S.; Lamont, M. A. C.; Paukkunen, Hannu; Zurita, P. (American Physical Society, 2017)The quantitative knowledge of heavy nuclei’s partonic structure is currently limited to rather large values of momentum fraction x—robust experimental constraints below x ∼ 10−2 at low resolution scale Q2 are particularly ... -

Accessing the gluonic structure of light nuclei at a future electron-ion collider
Mäntysaari, Heikki; Schenke, Björn (American Physical Society, 2020)We show how exclusive vector meson production off light ions can be used to probe the spatial distribution of small-x gluons in the deuteron and 3He wave functions. In particular, we demonstrate how short-range repulsive ... -
A U.S.-based Electron-Ion Collider
Guzey, Vadim (Institute of Physics, 2019)An Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) in USA is currently discussed as a next-generation facility for high-energy nuclear physics. The main goal of the EIC is to study fundamental questions of Quantum Chromodynamics, which include ... -
Inclusive and Diffractive Dijet Photoproduction at the Electron–Ion Collider in NLO QCD
Guzey, V.; Klasen, M. (Jagiellonian University, 2023)In the framework of collinear factorization and next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD, we make predictions for inclusive and diffrac tive dijet photoproduction in electron–proton and electron–nucleus scat tering in ...
