Inclusive production of J/ψ mesons, especially at forward rapidities, is an important probe of small-x gluons in protons and nuclei. In this paper we reevaluate the production cross sections in the color glass condensate framework, where the process is described by a large x gluon from the probe splitting into a quark pair and eikonally interacting with the target proton or nucleus. Using a standard collinear gluon distribution for the probe and an up-to-date dipole cross section fitted to HERA data to describe the target we achieve a rather good description of the cross section in proton-proton collisions, although with a rather large normalization uncertainty. More importantly, we show that generalizing the dipole cross section to nuclei in the Glauber approach results in a nuclear suppression of J/ψ production that is much closer to the experimental data than claimed in previous literature.

Centrality-dependent forward J/ψ production in high energy proton-nucleus collisions
Ducloue, Bertrand; Lappi, Tuomas; Mäntysaari, H. (EDP Sciences, 2016)Forward J/ψ production and suppression in high energy proton-nucleus collisions can be an important probe of gluon saturation. In an earlier work we studied this process in the Color Glass Condensate framework and showed ... -
Forward rapidity isolated photon production in proton-nucleus collisions
Ducloué, B.; Lappi, Tuomas; Mäntysaari, Heikki (Elsevier BV, 2019)We calculate isolated photon production at forward rapidities in proton-nucleus collisions in the Color Glass Condensate framework. Our calculation uses dipole cross sections solved from the running coupling Balitsky-Kovchegov ... -
Top-quark production in proton–nucleus and nucleus–nucleus collisions at LHC energies and beyond
d'Enterria, David; Krajczár, Krisztián; Paukkunen, Hannu (Elsevier BV * North-Holland, 2015)Single and pair top-quark production in proton–lead (p–Pb) and lead–lead (Pb–Pb) collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC) energies, are studied with next-toleading-order perturbative ... -
Inclusive J/𝜓 production in forward proton-proton and proton-lead collisions at high energy
Gimeno-Estivill, Patricia; Lappi, Tuomas; Mäntysaari, Heikki (American Physical Society, 2024)We calculate the cross section for forward J/𝜓 production in proton-proton and minimum bias proton-lead collisions using the color glass condensate (CGC) and nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) formalism consistently with deep ... -
Complete next-to-leading order calculation of single inclusive π0 production in forward proton-nucleus collisions
Mäntysaari, Heikki; Tawabutr, Yossathorn (American Physical Society (APS), 2024)We present the first fully consistent calculation of inclusive π0 production at forward rapidities at next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy in proton-lead collisions at √s=8.16 TeV within the color glass condensate approach. ...
