Computational modeling of protein diffusion in the cell nucleus using the lattice-Boltzmann method
The number of fluorescence applications and methods of analysis is growing in the biological and related sciences. The aim of this work was to accurately determine the diffusion coefficient in nucleus, diffusion in the cytoplasm and nucleo-cytoplasmic translocation should be considered as well. Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) experiments were used in order to study protein diffusion. A numerical model for FRAP was used to determine the diffusion properties of proteins. The present method removed the difficulties of the conventional analysis, could produce, interesting results for protein diffusion in the cell.

High-order regularization in lattice-Boltzmann equations
Mattila, Keijo; Philippi, Paulo C.; Hegele, Luiz A. (American Institute of Physics, 2017)A lattice-Boltzmann equation (LBE) is the discrete counterpart of a continuous kinetic model. It can be derived using a Hermite polynomial expansion for the velocity distribution function. Since LBEs are characterized ... -
Investigation of an entropic stabilizer for the lattice-Boltzmann method
Mattila, Keijo; Hegele, Luiz A.; Philippi, Paulo C. (American Physical Society, 2015)The lattice-Boltzmann (LB) method is commonly used for the simulation of fluid flows at the hydrodynamic level of description. Due to its kinetic theory origins, the standard LB schemes carry more degrees of freedom than ... -

Simulations of fluid flow in porous media by lattice-gas and lattice-Boltzmann methods
Koponen, Antti (1998)Lattice-gas and lattice-Boltzmann methods can provide promising alternative approaches to traditional computational fluid dynamics. The geometric versatility of these methods makes them very attractive for simulating many ... -
Modeling of intracellular transport in realistic cell geometries
Aho, Vesa (University of Jyväskylä, 2018)The transport of molecules inside cells is a complex process, the characterization of which is important to gain full understanding of cellular processes. Understanding of intracellular transport is also important for ...
