A faunistic inventory of lamellicorn beetles has been conducted in southern Sardinia (former province of Cagliari) based on literature and collection
records, as well as on new fi ndings from recent fi eld expeditions (2003–2008). The taxonomic analysis of the study area revealed the occurrence of
105 species (2 Lucanidae, 2 Trogidae, 7 Geotrupidae, 1 Hybosoridae and 93 Scarabaeidae). The majority of families are represented by 100% of
the known Sardinian fauna; o nly the Scarabaeidae, the most diverse family, is represented by 80.8% of its Sardinian members. Some considerations
are made on the conservation status, trophic categories, chorotypes, habitat distribution and seasonal activity of all the species recorded. The
percent values of coprophagous and phytophagous species are respectively 57.1% and 40.9%, almost reversed compared to the same values for
the whole Italian lamellicorn fauna (46.8% and 50.5%). This pattern is probably due to the historical impact of land use (mainly based on livestock
grazing) on the structure of the scarab communities.

Choosy beetles : How host trees and southern boreal forest naturalness may determine dead wood beetle communities
Burner, Ryan C.; Birkemoe, Tone; Stephan, Jörg G.; Drag, Lukas; Muller, Jörg; Ovaskainen, Otso; Potterf, Mária; Skarpaas, Olav; Snall, Tord; Sverdrup-Thygeson, Anne (Elsevier, 2021)Wood-living beetles make up a large proportion of forest biodiversity and contribute to important ecosystem services, including decomposition. Beetle communities in managed southern boreal forests are less species rich ... -
Eri hakkuutapojen vaikutukset boreaalisen kuusivaltaisen metsän kovakuoriaislajistoon 10 vuotta hakkuiden jälkeen
Vainio, Heli (2021)Luonnossa erilaiset luontaiset häiriöt ovat kaikille ekosysteemeille tyypillisiä, mutta Fennoskandiassa hakkuut ovat nykyisin syrjäyttäneet luontaiset häiriöt boreaalisten metsien tärkeimpänä häiriönä. Hakkuut vaikuttavat ... -
Northward range expansion requires synchronization of both overwintering behaviour and physiology with photoperiod in the invasive Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata)
Lehmann, Philipp; Lyytinen, Anne; Piiroinen, Saija; Lindström, Leena (Springer; International Association for Ecology, (Intecol), 2014)Abstract. Photoperiodic phenological adaptations are prevalent in many organisms living in seasonal environments. As both photoperiod and growth season length change with latitude, species undergoing latitudinal range ... -
Climate Change Effects on Agricultural Insect Pests in Europe
Lindström, Leena; Lehmann, Philipp (CABI, 2015)In this chapter we will discuss observations of climate change effects on agricultural pests in Europe, the possible mechanisms behind these observed effects and finally delve into more detail through some, relatively well ... -
Functional structure of European forest beetle communities is enhanced by rare species
Burner, Ryan C.; Drag, Lukas; Stephan, Jörg G.; Birkemoe, Tone; Wetherbee, Ross; Muller, Jörg; Siitonen, Juha; Snäll, Tord; Skarpaas, Olav; Potterf, Mária; Doerfler, Inken; Gossner, Martin M.; Schall, Peter; Weisser, Wolfgang W.; Sverdrup-Thygeson, Anne (Elsevier, 2022)Biodiverse communities have been shown to sustain high levels of multifunctionality and thus a loss of species likely negatively impacts ecosystem functions. For most taxa, however, roles of individual species are poorly ...
