The data were collected in 2021-2023 in the "Children's grief and grieving in institutional early childhood education and care" research project of the University of Helsinki (funded by the Research Council of Finland, 2021-2025), in a sub study and in a grant-funded study (funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation) exploring children's grief and grieving in the context of flexibly scheduled early childhood education and care (ECEC). The data consist of: 1) observational data concentrating on evening time in an ECEC centre with extended opening ours, 2) observational data concentrating on the starting phase of ECEC in an ECEC centre open 24/7, and 3) observation-based interviews of guardians and early childhood educators.
The data are reused in 2024-2027 in the "Guiding and learning of emotions in everyday activities of flexibly scheduled early childhood education and care" (TUNTEVA) research project of the University of Jyväskylä. The research project is conducted by the postdoctoral researcher Eija Salonen and funded by the JYU.Well profiling area. The University of Helsinki is still the owner and the rights holder of the data. The reuse of the data in the TUNTEVA research project has been confirmed by a contract between the two universities.

Aineisto on kerätty vuonna 2021-2023 Helsingin yliopiston tutkimushankkeen "Lasten suru ja suremisen kulttuuriset käytännöt varhaiskasvatuksessa" (rahoitus Suomen Akatemia, 2021-2025) osatutkimuksessa sekä apurahatutkimuksessa (rahoitus Suomen Kulttuurirahasto), jossa tarkasteltiin lasten surua ja suremista varhaiskasvatuksen vuorohoidon kontekstissa. Aineistokokonaisuus sisältää: 1) laajennetun aukiolon päiväkodissa kerättyä, vuorohoidon ilta-aikaa kuvaavaa havainnointiaineistoa, 2) ympärivuorokautisessa päiväkodissa kerättyä, varhaiskasvatuksen aloitusvaihetta kuvaavaa havainnointiaineistoa sekä 3) havainnointeja täydentävää, lasten huoltajilta ja päiväkodin aikuisilta kerättyä haastatteluaineistoa.
Aineistoa käytetään vuonna 2024-2027 JYU.Well-profilointihankkeen rahoittamassa tutkimushankkeessa "Tunteisiin liittyvä ohjaaminen ja oppiminen varhaiskasvatuksen vuorohoidon arjen toiminnassa" (TUNTEVA), jonka vastuullisena tutkijana toimii tutkijatohtori Eija Salonen.
