Life history measurements of zebrafish (Danio rerio) after 5 generations of size-selective harvesting and 10 subsequent generations of recovery across three different size-selective treatments with two replicates. This includes data on body length, wet weight, growth, spawning probability, clutch size, fertilization rate, egg and larval measurements and supplemental figures.

Experimental size-selective harvesting affects behavioral types of a social fish
Sbragaglia, Valerio; Alós, Josep; Fromm, Kim; Monk, Christopher T.; Díaz-Gil, Carlos; Uusi-Heikkilä, Silva; Honsey, Andrew E.; Wilson, Alexander D.M.; Arlinghaus, Robert (John Wiley & Sons Ltd., 2019)In most fisheries, larger fish experience substantially higher mortality than smaller fish. Body length, life-history and behavioral traits often correlate, such that fisheries-induced changes in size or life-history can ... -
Fisheries-induced life-history changes recover in experimentally harvested fish populations
van Dijk, Stephan N.; Sadler, Daniel E.; Watts, Phillip C.; Uusi-Heikkilä, Silva (Royal Society, 2024)Overfishing is one of the greatest threats to fish populations. Size-selective harvesting favours faster juvenile growth, younger maturation, small adult body size and low reproductive output. Such changes might be slow ... -
Limited effects of size-selective harvesting and harvesting-induced life-history changes on the temporal variability of biomass dynamics in complex food webs
Nonaka, Etsuko; Kuparinen, Anna (Elsevier, 2023)Harvesting has been implicated in destabilizing the abundances of exploited populations. Because selective harvesting often targets large individuals, some studies have proposed that exploited populations often experience ... -
Competition between marine mammals and fisheries in contemporary harvested marine ecosystems
Jusufovski, Dunja; Saavedra, Camilo; Kuparinen, Anna (Inter-Research Science Publisher, 2019)Competitive interactions between marine mammals and fisheries represent some of the most complex challenges in marine resource management worldwide. The development of commercial fisheries and recovering marine mammal ... -
Size-selective harvesting fosters adaptations in mating behavior and reproductive allocation, affecting sexual selection in fish
Sbragaglia, Valerio; Gliese, Catalina; Bierbach, David; Honsey, Andrew E.; Uusi-Heikkilä, Silva; Arlinghaus, Robert (Wiley-Blackwell Publishing Ltd., 2019)The role of sexual selection in the context of harvest‐induced evolution is poorly understood. However, elevated and trait‐selective harvesting of wild populations may change sexually selected traits, which in turn can ...
