We review the use of hybrid thin films composed of superconductors and ferromagnets for creating non-reciprocal electronic components and self-biased detectors of electromag- netic radiation. We begin by introducing the theory behind these effects, as well as discussing various potential materials that can be used in the fabrication of these components. We then proceed with a detailed discussion on the fabrication and characteriza- tion of Al/EuS/Cu and EuS/Al/Co-based detectors, along with their noise analysis. Additionally, we suggest some approaches for multiplexing such self-biased detectors.

Thermoelectric Radiation Detector Based on Superconductor-Ferromagnet Systems
Heikkilä, Tero; Ojajärvi, Risto; Maasilta, Ilari; Strambini, E.; Giazotto, F.; Bergeret, F. S. (American Physical Society, 2018)We suggest an ultrasensitive detector of electromagnetic fields exploiting the giant thermoelectric effect recently found in superconductor-ferromagnet hybrid structures. Compared with other types of superconducting detectors ... -
Thermoelectric radiation detector based on a superconductor-ferromagnet junction : Calorimetric regime
Chakraborty, Subrata; Heikkilä, Tero (AIP Publishing LLC, 2018)We study the use of a thermoelectric junction as a thermal radiation detector in the calorimetric regime, where single radiation bursts can be separated in time domain. We focus especially on the case of a large thermoelectric ... -
Analytical Models for the Pulse Shape of a Superconductor-Ferromagnet Tunnel Junction Thermoelectric Microcalorimeter
Geng, Z.; Maasilta, I. J. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2022)The superconductor-ferromagnet thermoelectric detector (SFTED) is a novel ultrasensitive radiation detector based on the giant thermoelectric effect in superconductor-ferromagnet tunnel junctions. We demonstrate analytical ... -
Domain wall induced modulation of low field H-T phase diagram in patterned superconductor-ferromagnet stripes
Bhatia, Ekta; Barber, Zoe H.; Maasilta, Ilari; Senapati, Kartik (American Institute of Physics, 2019)We present a systematic study of the magnetic domain wall induced modulation of superconducting transition temperature (Tc) in Nb/Ni bilayer stripes. By varying the thickness of the Ni layer from 20 nm to 100 nm we have ... -
Magnetoelectric effects in superconductor/ferromagnet bilayers
Rabinovich, D. S.; Bobkova, I. V.; Bobkov, A. M.; Silaev, M. A. (American Physical Society, 2019)We demonstrate that the hybrid structures consisting of a superconducting layer with an adjacent spin-textured ferromagnet demonstrate the variety of equilibrium magnetoelectric effects originating from coupling between ...
