Entoloma sicoense, a bluish gray mushroom species belonging to section Poliopodes, is described as a new addition to the subgenus Cyanula. This study presents the phylogeny, taxonomy, and ecological significance of Entoloma sicoense, which inhabits mossy broad-leaved forests in the eastern North Atlantic region. The discovery of this new species expands our understanding of fungal diversity and highlights the ecological significance of the subgenus Cyanula in Serra de Sicó. Entoloma sicoense exhibits specific morphological characteristics, such as slate gray basidiomata, a smooth concolorous stipe, and a sterile gill edge rich in brilliant granules. This research underscores the importance of documenting and describing new species in Serra de Sico´ for comprehensive cataloging, conservation efforts, and further exploration of its ecological role within the local ecosystem. The new species is presented with morphological, illustrated description as well as molecular work and comparison with similar species.

Two new species of Inocybe from Mediterranean Cistaceae heathlands
Fachada, Vasco; Bandini, Ditte; Beja-Pereira, Albano (Taylor & Francis, 2024)This study explored a heathland region in Portugal, and through morphology, biogeography, and multilocus phylogeny, two new species of Inocybaceae are described. The first species, Inocybe iberilepora, belongs to “I. ... -
What are the effects of even-aged and uneven-aged forest management on boreal forest biodiversity in Fennoscandia and European Russia? A systematic review
Savilaakso, Sini; Johansson, Anna; Häkkilä, Matti; Uusitalo, Anne; Sandgren, Terhi; Mönkkönen, Mikko; Puttonen, Pasi (BioMed Central, 2021)Background Forest harvesting changes forest habitat and impacts forest dependent species. Uneven-aged management is often considered better for biodiversity than even-aged management, but there is an ongoing discourse ... -

However, little is known about how the specific functional traits of saproxylic (wood-living) beetles, involved in ... -
Haavankäävän (Phellinus tremulae) esiintyminen ja vaikutus tikkojen pesäpuunvalintaan talous- ja luonnonmetsissä
Horppila, Petteri (2023)Aikaisemmissa tutkimuksissa on havaittu, että tikkojen pesintään haavassa saattaisi vaikuttaa positiivisesti rungolla kasvavien kääpien itiöemien määrä. Tässä tutkimuksessa tutkin vaikuttaako haavan rungolla kasvavan ...
