This literature review analyzes multiple studies which utilize computer modeling and simulation for the purpose of researching the properties of different archeological artifacts, buildings and events. The end result is a summary of the tools and methods utilized, and of the efficiency of said tools and methods.

Optimal recovery of a radiating source with multiple frequencies along one line
Brander, Tommi; Ilmavirta, Joonas; Piiroinen, Petteri; Tyni, Teemu (American Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), 2020)We study an inverse problem where an unknown radiating source is observed with collimated detectors along a single line and the medium has a known attenuation. The research is motivated by applications in SPECT and beam ... -
Dynamic integration of classifiers for handling concept drift
Tsymbal, Alexey; Pechenizkiy, Mykola; Cunningham, Padraig; Puuronen, Seppo (Elsevier, 2008)In the real world concepts are often not stable but change with time. A typical example of this in the biomedical context is antibiotic resistance, where pathogen sensitivity may change over time as new pathogen strains ... -
Enhancing Performance of Linked Independent Component Analysis : Investigating the Influence of Subjects and Modalities
Xu, Huashuai; Li, Huanjie; Kärkkäinen, Tommi; Cong, Fengyu (IEEE, 2023)In recent years, neuroimaging studies have increasingly been acquiring multiple modalities of data. The benefit of integrating multiple modalities through fusion lies in its ability to combine the unique strengths of each ... -
Biological basis of bone strength : Anatomy, physiology and measurement
Hart, Nicolas H.; Newton, Robert U.; Tan, Jocelyn; Rantalainen, Timo; Chivers, Paola; Siafarikas, Aris; Nimphius, Sophia (International Society of Musculoskeletal and Neuronal Interactions, 2020)Understanding how bones are innately designed, robustly developed and delicately maintained through intricate anatomical features and physiological processes across the lifespan is vital to inform our assessment of normal ... -
Developing and testing a discrete event simulation model to evaluate budget impacts of diabetes prevention programs
Kaasalainen, Karoliina; Kalmari, Janne; Ruohonen, Toni (Elsevier, 2020)Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is one of the most rapidly increasing non-communicable diseases worldwide. Lifestyle interventions are effective in preventing T2D but also resource intensive. This study evaluated with discrete event ...
