Spring 2021 has been a special time in Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) history. Due to the pandemic, the regulatory changes, and the increasing privacy and security concerns, the technology has been under fast development; however, its early adopters have faced several challenges. This book provides a snapshot of this special, pre-chasm phase of adopting SSI innovations. It is the outcome of the six-weeks intensive, master-level course “Blockchain in Digital Business” at the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. More than 70 enthusiastic individuals worked together in this course and developed a proof of concept for an SSI-based digital membership solution called SimplyMember as a collaborative effort. With very different, complementary skills, roles, and tasks, the course participants have been searching for answers to research questions and untacking the value of Self-Sovereign Identity solutions in practice - together. The book is written by the course participants and edited by the teaching team.
