Haasteet projektitoimiston ja ketterän projektinhallinnan menetelmän yhdistämisessä

Abstract

Liiketoiminnan kehittyessä yhä projektivetoisemmaksi, projektien määrä ja niiden kompleksisuus ovat johtaneet organisaatiot tarttumaan keskitettyjen projektinhallinnan keinoihin. Tätä varten organisaatiot ovat implementoineet projektitoimistoja osaksi toimintaansa. Samaan aikaan yritykset ovat muuttaneet näkökulmaa projektinhallintaan yhä enemmän ketterän projektinhallinnan menetelmää mukailevaksi. Tutkielman tavoitteena oli selvittää, miten organisaation projektitoimiston ja ketterän projektinhallinnan intressit eroavat toisistaan sekä millaisia haasteita nämä näkemyserot aiheuttavat. Lisäksi tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin, millaisia ratkaisuja näihin haasteisiin on esitetty. Tutkielma toteutettiin kuvailevana kirjallisuuskatsauksena. Lähteinä käytettiin alan tietokannoista löytyviä vertaisarvioituja artikkeleita. Joitakin eroavaisuuksia löydettiin ja suurin osa niistä oli yhdistettävissä käytettyjen menetelmien erilaisuudesta johtuvaksi. Eroavaisuuksista aiheutuneita haasteita oli tutkittu tieteellisessä kirjallisuudessa vain vähän. Haasteiksi voitiin tunnistaa menetelmien eri ominaisuuksien kokeminen konfliktisena sekä hierarkkisuuden erot organisaatiossa. Ratkaisuiksi näihin haasteisiin esitettiin projektitoimiston uudelleenkonfigurointia ketteräksi koordinointitoimistoksi tai hybridimallin käyttöönottoa projektinhallinnassa.

As the business activity has developed to be more and more project-driven, the number of projects and their complexity has led organizations to adopt central-ized project management tools. For that reason, organizations have implement-ed project management offices as a part of their strategy. At the same time, or-ganizations have increasingly changed their approach on project management to conform the agile method. The aim of this study was to explore the differ-ences in interests of PMO’s and agile project management, what kind of chal-lenges these cause and how the challenges faced have been solved in organiza-tions. The study was conducted as a literature review. The sources used to complete this study were peer-reviewed articles. As a result of this study, few differences were spotted and most of them were linked to the differences be-tween traditional and agile project management methodologies. The challenges posed by these differences had been studied only as a fractional manner. The challenges regarded experiencing the different methods’ features as conflicts and the difference in organization hierarchy. The solutions proposed to these challenges were a reconfiguration of the project management office into an ag-ile coordination office, or the introduction of a hybrid project management model.
