Hoivakodin valinta ikääntyneiden asumispalveluissa

Abstract

Ikääntyneiden asumispalveluiden tarve on kasvanut voimakkaasti viime vuosien ajan. Samaan aikaan väestörakenteen on ennustettu muuttuvan merkittävällä tavalla seuraavien vuosikymmenien aikana. Kuntien omien asumispalveluiden rinnalle on kehittynyt yksityisten palvelutuottajien markkinat, jotka täydentävät kuntien omia asumispalveluita. Lisäksi markkinoilla toimii eri järjestöjä. Tässä tutkielmassa tutkitaan, mitkä tekijät ovat yhteydessä ikääntyneen asumispalveluyksikön valintaan. Tutkielmassa esitetään Suomen institutionaalinen kehys, jonka puitteissa palveluiden tilaajat ja tuottajat toimivat. Teoreettinen viitekehyskuvaa toimialalle ominaisia piirteitä ja pohjustaa tutkielmassa esitettävää empiiristä kirjallisuutta. Tutkielmaa varten on haastateltu 13 yksikön johtajaa, jotka työskentelevät ikääntyneiden palveluasumisessa. Lisäksi tutkielmassa hyödynnetään kyselyä, joka on lähetty yhden Suomessa toimivan yrityksen ikääntyneiden asumispalveluyksiköiden asukkaiden läheisille. Kyselyn perusteella tyypillisin hoivakodin valintaan yhteydessä oleva tekijä on ollut sijainti. Tutkielman pohjalta esitetään jatkotutkimusmahdollisuudeksi monipuolisempaa empiiristä tutkimusta asumispalveluiden valinnasta.

The need for housing services for the elderly has grown strongly in recent years. At the same time, the demographic structure is projected to change significantly in the coming decades. Alongside the municipalities 'own housing services, the market for private service providers has developed, which complements the municipalities' own housing services. In addition, there are various organizations operating in the market. This thesis examines what factors are related to the choice of an elderly housing service unit. The thesis presents the Finnish institutional framework within which service providers and subscribers operate. Theoretical frame of reference describes the characteristics of the industry and lays the foundation for the empirical literature presented in the dissertation. For the thesis 13 executive director working in service housing for the elderly have been interviewed. In addition, the thesis utilizes a questionnaire sent to the relatives of the residents of the elderly housing service units. Data consists information from one company operating in Finland. Based on the survey, the most typical factor associated with choosing a nursing home has been location. Based on the thesis, a more diverse empirical study on the choice of housing services is presented as an opportunity for further research.
