Children with cerebral palsy (CP) have various gait impairments, but there is limited evidence about their gait stability. The gait has shown to be less stable in hemiplegic (HP) children compared to typically developed (TD) controls1. Some gait kinematics are also altered more in CP than TD by concurrent motor2 and cognitive3 tasks.

The gait is less stable in children with cerebral palsy in normal and dual-task gait compared to typically developed peers
Piitulainen, Harri; Kulmala, Juha-Pekka; Mäenpää, Helena; Rantalainen, Timo (Elsevier, 2021)There is limited evidence about gait stability and its alteration by concurrent motor and cognitive tasks in children with cerebral palsy (CP). We examined gait stability and how it is altered by constrained cognitive or ... -
Effects of cognitive and motor dual-task on spatiotemporal gait parameters in children and adolescents with Cerebral Palsy
Haakana, P.; Nurminen, J.; Kulmala, J.P.; Niemelä, T.; Marttinen Rossi, E.; Mäenpää, H.; Piitulainen, H. (Elsevier BV, 2020)Cerebral Palsy (CP) causes impairments in gait1. These impairments can be further emphasized if attention is directed to concurrent motor and/or cognitive tasks during gait. There is little evidence on how strong the ... -
Improving gait in cerebral palsy : effects of a combined strength, flexibility and gait training Intervention on lower limb gait kinematics and kinetics in children and young adults with spastic cerebral palsy
Thamm, Antonia (2021)INTRODUCTION. Walking ability is a fundamental skill enabling participation and independence. For people with cerebral palsy (CP) gait can be impaired due to altered musculoskeletal development resulting from a lesion of ... -
Plasma polyunsaturated fatty acids are directly associated with cognition in overweight children but not in normal weight children
Haapala, Eero; Viitasalo, A.; Venäläinen, T.; Eloranta, A.-M.; Ågren, J.; Lindi, V.; Lakka, T. A. (Wiley-Blackwell Publishing Ltd.; Foundation Acta Paediatrica, 2016)Aim Polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential nutrients for the normal development of the brain. We investigated the associations between plasma polyunsaturated fatty acids and cognition in normal weight and overweight ... -
Cortical proprioceptive processing is altered in children with diplegic cerebral palsy
Piitulainen, Harri; Nurmi, Timo; Vallinoja, Jaakko; Jaatela, Julia; Ylitalo, Elina; Mäenpää, Helena (Elsevier BV, 2020)Children with cerebral palsy (CP) have various motor impairments, but less is known about the processing deficits of the somatosensory afference, especially in the proprioceptive domain. Proprioception (“the movement ...
