Extending an example by Colding and Minicozzi (Trans Am Math Soc 356(1):283–289, 2003), we construct a sequence of properly embedded minimal disks \Sigma _i in an infinite Euclidean cylinder around the x_3-axis with curvature blow-up at a single point. The sequence converges to a non-smooth and non-proper minimal lamination in the cylinder. Moreover, we show that the disks \Sigma _i are not properly embedded in a sequence of open subsets of \mathbb {R}^3 that exhausts \mathbb {R}^3.

On the topology of surfaces with the generalised simple lift property
Tripaldi, Francesca (Springer Netherlands, 2020)In this paper, we study the geometry of surfaces with the generalised simple lift property. This work generalises previous results by Bernstein and Tinaglia (J Differ Geom 102(1):1–23, 2016) and it is motivated by the fact ... -
Indecomposable sets of finite perimeter in doubling metric measure spaces
Bonicatto, Paolo; Pasqualetto, Enrico; Rajala, Tapio (Springer, 2020)We study a measure-theoretic notion of connectedness for sets of finite perimeter in the setting of doubling metric measure spaces supporting a weak (1,1)-Poincaré inequality. The two main results we obtain are a decomposition ... -
Local minimizers and gamma-convergence for nonlocal perimeters in Carnot groups
Carbotti, Alessandro; Don, Sebastiano; Pallara, Diego; Pinamonti, Andrea (EDP Sciences, 2021)We prove the local minimality of halfspaces in Carnot groups for a class of nonlocal functionals usually addressed as nonlocal perimeters. Moreover, in a class of Carnot groups in which the De Giorgi’s rectifiability theorem ... -
Periodic Controls in Step 2 Strictly Convex Sub-Finsler Problems
Sachkov, Yuri L. (Pleiades Publishing, 2020)We consider control-linear left-invariant time-optimal problems on step 2 Carnot groups with a strictly convex set of control parameters (in particular, sub-Finsler problems). We describe all Casimirs linear in momenta on ... -
Existence of optimal transport maps in very strict CD(K,∞) -spaces
Schultz, Timo (Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2018)We introduce a more restrictive version of the strict CD(K,∞) -condition, the so-called very strict CD(K,∞) -condition, and show the existence of optimal maps in very strict CD(K,∞) -spaces despite the possible ...
