The existence of the neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay is one of the most intriguing open questions in the neutrino physics field. Despite many large-scale experiments have aimed to measure the reaction for decades, it has not yet been observed. Therefore, accurate theoretical calculations on 0νββ are crucial. To describe the double beta decay processes reliably one needs a possibility to test the involved virtual transitions against experimental data. In this work we manifest how to utilise the charge-exchange and ordinary muon capture (OMC) data in the study of 0νββ decay.

Calculated solar-neutrino capture rate for a radiochemical 205Tl-based solar-neutrino detector
Kostensalo, Joel; Suhonen, Jouni; Zuber, K. (American Physical Society, 2020)Radiochemical experiments for low-energy solar-neutrino detection have been making headlines by exploiting the isotopes 37Cl and 71Ga. Such a very low-threshold measurement of this type can also be performed using 205Tl, ... -
Comparative Analysis of Nuclear Matrix Elements of 0νβ+β+ Decay and Muon Capture in 106Cd
Jokiniemi, Lotta; Suhonen, Jouni; Kotila, Jenni (Frontiers Media SA, 2021)Comparative analyses of the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) related to the 0νβ+β+ decay of 106Cd to the ground state of 106Pd and the ordinary muon capture (OMC) in 106Cd are performed. This is the first time the OMC NMEs ... -
Estimated solar-neutrino capture rates of 131Xe : implications for multi-tonne Xe-based experiments
Kostensalo, J.; Suhonen, J.; Zuber, K. (Institute of Physics, 2021)Various large-scale experiments for double beta decay or dark matter are based on xenon. Current experiments are on the tonne scale, but future ideas also aim for even larger sizes. Here we study the potential of the isotope ... -
Observation of an ultralow-Q-value electron-capture channel decaying to 75As via a high-precision mass measurement

(American Physical Society (APS), 2022)A precise determination of the atomic mass of 75As has been performed utilizing the double Penning trap mass spectrometer, JYFLTRAP. The mass excess is measured to be −73035.519(42)keV/c2, which is a factor of 21 more ... -
Isovector and isoscalar spin-multipole giant resonances in the parent and daughter nuclei of double-β-decay triplets
Kauppinen, Elina; Suhonen, Jouni (American Physical Society, 2022)The strength distributions, including giant resonances, of isovector and isoscalar spin-multipole transitions in the commonly studied double-β-decay triplets are computed in the framework of the quasiparticle random-phase ...
