The MORA (Matter’s Origin from the Radio Activity of trapped and oriented ions) project aims at measuring with unprecedented precision the D correlation in the nuclear beta decay of trapped and oriented ions. The D correlation offers the possibility to search for new CP-violating interactions, complementary to searches done at the LHC and with electric dipole moments. Technically, MORA uses an innovative in-trap orientation method which combines the high trapping efficiency of a transparent Paul trap with laser orientation techniques. The trapping, detection, and laser setups are under development. The project will first focus on the proof-of-principle of the in-trap laser orientation technique, before the actual measurement of the D correlation in the decay of 23Mg+ ions is undertaken firstly at JYFL and then later, at GANIL, with full sensitivity to new physics.

Bootstrap technique to study correlation between neutron skin thickness and the slope of symmetry energy in atomic nuclei
Muir, D.; Pastore, A.; Dobaczewski, Jacek; Barton, C.J. (Jagellonian University, 2018)We examine the proposed correlation between the neutron skin thickness and the slope of the symmetry energy for two doubly-magic nuclei ( 100Sn and 132Sn) and find that a statistically significant correlation appears to ... -

Isospin-symmetry breaking in masses of N ≃ Z nuclei
Ba̧czyk, P.; Dobaczewski, Jacek; Konieczka, M.; Satuła, W.; Nakatsukasa, T.; Sato, K. (Elsevier B.V., 2018)Effects of the isospin-symmetry breaking (ISB) beyond mean-field Coulomb terms are systematically studied in nuclear masses near the N = Z line. The Coulomb exchange contributions are calculated exactly. We use extended ... -
