We prove fractional order Hardy inequalities on open sets under a
combined fatness and visibility condition on the boundary. We demonstrate by
counterexamples that fatness conditions alone are not sufficient for such Hardy
inequalities to hold. In addition, we give a short exposition of various fatness
conditions related to our main result, and apply fractional Hardy inequalities in
connection to the boundedness of extension operators for fractional Sobolev spaces.

Visible organisational boundaries and the invisible boundaries of the scholarly profession
Siekkinen, T.; Pekkola, E.; Nokkala, T. (Taylor & Francis, 2022)The role of universities in knowledge production has changed. Although most higher learning still takes place in universities, knowledge is increasingly produced in collaborative networks comprising partners from different ... -
The relationship between visible light emission and species fraction of the hydrogen ion beams extracted from 2.45 GHz microwave discharge
Cortázar, O. D.; Megía-Macías, A.; Tarvainen, Olli; Kalvas, Taneli; Koivisto, Hannu (American Institute of Physics, 2015)The relationship between Balmer-α and Fulcher-band emissions with extracted H + , H + 2 , and H + 3 ions is demonstrated for a 2.45 GHz microwave discharge. Ion mass spectra and optical measurements of Balmer-α ... -
(In)visibility during organizational entry : Newcomer perceptions of visibility in remote work
Jämsen, Rasa; Sivunen, Anu E. (Routledge, 2024)While the research on communication visibility has typically focused on how visibility is enacted among employees who are familiar with the networks, practices and technologies of the organization, this study focuses on ... -
Supplementary data to: Genetic colour variation visible for predators and conspecifics is concealed from humans in a polymorphic moth
Kirvesoja, Jimi; Nokelainen, Ossi; Suisto, Kaisa; Mappes, Johanna; Galarza Pavia, Juan (2022)The definition of colour polymorphism is intuitive: genetic variants express discretely-coloured phenotypes. This classification is however elusive as humans form subjective categories or ignore differences that cannot be ... -
Quasihyperbolic boundary condition: Compactness of the inner boundary
Lammi, Päivi (University of Illinois, 2011)We prove that if a metric space satisfies a suitable growth condition in the quasihyperbolic metric and the Gehring–Hayman theorem in the original metric, then the inner boundary of the space is homeomorphic to the Gromov ...
