FysioterapiaThe present series of studies examined neuromuscular function during knee exercise in water and training responses of an aquatic exercise program. Emphasis was placed on the quantification of water resistance, the drag. Subjects who participated in this series of studies were 25-35-year-old healthy women and men. Neuromuscular function was examined using electromyography (EMG), force and reflex sensitivity measurements in the isometric condition on land and in water. EMG and angular velocity were measured during dynamic knee extension-flexion in still and flowing water. The drag forces acting on the leg and foot model were measured in the barefoot condition and with a large resistance boot.

Effects of caffeine on neuromuscular function in a non‐fatigued state and during fatiguing exercise
Mesquita, Ricardo N. O.; Cronin, Neil J.; Kyröläinen, Heikki; Hintikka, Jukka; Avela, Janna (Cambridge University Press, 2020)Purpose Caffeine enhances exercise performance but its mechanisms of action remain unclear. This study investigated its effects on neuromuscular function in a non‐fatigued state and during fatiguing exercise. Methods Eighteen ... -
A post-exercise infrared sauna session improves recovery of neuromuscular performance and muscle soreness after resistance exercise training
Ahokas, Essi K.; Ihalainen, Johanna; Hanstock, Helen G.; Savolainen, Eero; Kyröläinen, Heikki (Termedia Sp. z.o.o., 2023)The aim of this study was to investigate effects of a single infrared sauna (IRS) session on postexercise recovery of neuromuscular performance, autonomic nervous system function, subjective sleep quality, and muscle ... -
Acute Neuromuscular and Hormonal Responses to Power, Strength, and Hypertrophic Protocols and Training Background
Kotikangas, Johanna; Walker, Simon; Toivonen, Sara; Peltonen, Heikki; Häkkinen, Keijo (Frontiers Media SA, 2022)This study investigated how two slightly different athlete groups would differ in acute neuromuscular and endocrine responses to specific resistance exercise loadings and recovery compared to untrained participants.
