Opintotietojärjestelmän tavoitteellinen kehittäminen kehittämiskartan avulla

Abstract

Opintotietojärjestelmä on tärkeä osa korkeakoulujen toimintaa opiskelijoiden ja korkeakoulun välisen toiminnan sujuvuuden ja onnistumisen näkökulmasta. Tietojärjestelmien kehittämis- ja käyttöönottoprojektit epäonnistuvat varsin usein, joten tämä riski on otettava huomioon myös opintotietojärjestelmän tilanteessa. Tämän pro gradu -tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää, millä keinoilla opintotietojärjestelmän kehittämistä voidaan ohjata tavoitteellisesti niin, että kaikki sen käyttäjäryhmät otetaan tasapainoisesti huomioon. Tutkimuksessa kehitettiin Design science -menetelmällä malli, opintotietojärjestelmän kehittämiskartta, jonka avulla voidaan havaita kehittämistarpeita ja priorisoida niitä perustellusti ohjelmiston kehittäjälle. Tämä auttaa kehitysresurssien tehokkaassa suuntaamisessa. Aluksi tutkimuksessa käsiteltiin teoriaa ja aikaisempia tutkimuksia, joiden pohjalta luotiin ensimmäinen versio mallista. Tämän jälkeen mallia jatkokehitettiin esimerkkitapauksen avulla. Mallin demonstrointi toteutettiin esimerkkitapauksen avulla. Lopuksi malli esiteltiin kohderyhmille ja siitä kerättiin arviointitietoa, jonka pohjalta mallin arviointi toteutettiin. Näiden pohjalta malli todettiin käyttökelpoiseksi.

In the context of higher education institutions, a student information system is an important part of its operations from the perspective of smooth and successful actions between students and higher education institutions. Information systems development and implementation projects are often considered to be unsuccessful. Therefore, this risk needs to be considered also in the case of student information system. The aim of this master’s thesis is to find out how a student information system development can be guided goal-oriented and by means that all its user groups are paid attention to in a balanced way. This study was conducted using Design Science Research Methodology. The framework, the development map for student information systems, was developed in the study. It helps to identify development needs and prioritize them in a justified way. After this, it is possible to communicate about identified needs with the system developer. This helps to target development resources effectively. At first, theory and earlier studies about the topic were studied and discussed. Based on this, the first version of the framework was developed. The framework was demonstrated with a case example. Finally, the framework was presented, and evaluation data was collected during the presentations. The evaluation of the framework was conducted based on collected evaluation data. Based on this, the development map for student information systems was found to be usable.
