This Bachelor’s thesis consists of a literature part and an experimental part. The literature part first presents the terminology of supramolecular chemistry followed by the concept of a supramolecular gel. After introducing selected biomolecules, some applications based on supramolecular gels derived from them are reviewed. In the experimental part the gel formation abilities of three bile acid derivatives were examined.

    Kuosmanen, Riikka T.; Truong, Khai‐Nghi; Rissanen, Kari T.; Sievänen, Elina I. (Wiley-VCH Verlag, 2021)
Six bile acid alkyl amide derivatives were studied with respect to their gelation properties. The derivatives were composed of three different bile acids with hexyl or cyclohexyl side chains. The gelation behaviour of all ...
  • Strategies for Exploring Functions from Dynamic Combinatorial Libraries

Jia, Chunman; Qi, Dawei; Zhang, Yucang; Rissanen, Kari; Li, Jianwei (Wiley-VCH Verlag, 2020)
Dynamic combinatorial chemistry (DCC) is a powerful approach for creating complex chemical systems, giving access to the studies of complexity and exploration of functionality in synthetic systems. However, compared with ...

Induced fit and conformational selection are two dominant binding mechanisms in biology. Although induced fit has been widely accepted by supramolecular chemists, conformational selection is rarely studied with synthetic ...

Pamuła, Małgorzata; Nissinen, Maija; Helttunen, Kaisa (Wiley-VCH Verlag, 2020)
In this study, the synthesis of tetramethoxy resorcinarene podands bearing p‐toluene arms connected by ‐SO3‐ (1) and ‐CH2O‐ (2) linkers is presented. In the solid state, the resorcinarene podand 1 forms an intramolecular ...
