In hydrometallurgical processes, the separation of nickel and cobalt is challenging. Cyanex272 dialkyl phosphinic acid is generally used to separatet hese elements. The most effective separation requires that the reaction mixture be as pure as possible from various interferences such as carboxylic acids. This thesis investigates various possibilities for removing carboxylic acids from the extraction mixture.
Possibility of utilizing different pH isotherms and different water solubilities of carboxylic acids and Cyanex 272 for separation was investigated. Normal phase chromatography was attempted with one minute fractioning and finally molecular catcher was tested. Separation of extractants in these experiments, with these parameters failed.Possibility of utilizing different pH isotherms and different water solubilities of carboxylic acids and Cyanex 272 for separation was investigated. Availability of extractives from various Norway spruce Picea abies stumps assortments
Halmemies, Eelis S.; Brännström, Hanna E.; Karjalainen, Mikko; Nurmi, Juha; Alén, Raimo (Marcel Dekker, 2023)Stumps and knotwood of Norway spruce (Picea abies) are valuable sources of wood extractives. Although lignans from knotwood have already been utilized in value-added products, the behavior and valorization of stump-derived ... -
Analysis of Lipophilic Extractives from Fast Pyrolysis Bio-Oils
Ohra-aho, Taina; Ghalibaf, Maryam; Alén, Raimo; Lindfors, Christian; Oasmaa, Anja (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2022)Fast pyrolysis bio-oils (FPBOs) originating from forest residues contain extractive-derived substances, which may form a separate, sticky layer with char particles on the surface of these bio-oils. In this study, first, ... -
Development of fast analysis methods for extractives in papermaking process waters
Valto, Piia (University of Jyväskylä, 2011)A fast analysis method with an online sample enrichment technique for the analysis of resin and fatty acids present in papermaking process waters was developed. This method was based on atmospheric pressure chemical ... -
Coordination Complexes of a Neutral 1,2,4-Benzotriazinyl Radical Ligand: Synthesis, Molecular and Electronic Structures, and Magnetic Properties
Morgan, Ian; Mansikkamäki, Akseli; Zissimou, Georgia A.; Koutentis, Panayoitis A.; Rouzières, Mathieu; Clérac, Rodolphe; Tuononen, Heikki (Wiley - VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 2015)A series of d-block metal complexes of the recently reported coordinating neutral radical ligand 1-phenyl-3-(pyrid-2-yl)-1,4-dihydro-1,2,4-benzotriazin-4-yl (1) was synthesized. The investigated systems contain the ... -
Solvent directs the dimensionality of Cu-dicyanoimidazoles
Hirva, Pipsa; Jääskeläinen, Sirpa; Gayfullina, Rezeda; Korhonen, Henna; Koshevoy, Igor O. (Elsevier, 2022)In this paper, we report one-pot reactions of the same reactants 4,5-dicyanoimidazole and CuI in different solvents. In pure MeCN, the reaction resulted in previously reported MOF structure [Cu(4,5-dicyanoimidazole)]n.(MeCN)0.5n ...
