Digitalization of global economy and public sector funding

Abstract

This report aims to trigger discussion. Our recent research reveals that digitalization, platform economy, Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence will change the structures of the global economy. All this will have an impact on the sources of the public sector funding. We present here strong claims because the solutions should be identified and discussed widely in the Finnish society. The scientific background you will find from references. We had the pleasure to work with a group of taxation experts with a wide and diverse background. We are grateful for the contribution of the PVN researchers: Raija Koivisto, Heidi Auvinen, Brenda Fox, Victor Vurpillat and David Rejeski. Conclusions and recommendations are produced solely by the research team. Platform Value Now research project will continue its work until the end of May 2021. We hope that the readers of this report will send us their comments and propose research questions that support the quest for a better, digitalized welfare society.

Tämän raportin tehtävä on saada aikaan keskustelua. Tutkimuksemme mukaan digitalisaatio, alustatalous, koneiden internet ja tekoäly tulevat muuttamaan rajusti globaalin talouden rakenteita ja julkisen sektorin rahoituslähteitä. Kärjistämme, koska mielestämme on tärkeää, että mahdollisia ratkaisuja etsitään yhteisvoimin ja keskustelua käydään laajasti suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa. Tieteellinen tausta väitteillemme löytyy raportin viitteistä. Kiitämme verotuksen monipuolisia asiantuntijoita, jotka osallistuivat aineiston tuottamiseen ja sen analysoimiseen. Toivomme lukijoilta kommentteja ja erityisesti syventäviä tutkimuskysymyksiä, jotka auttavat osaltaan löytämään ratkaisuja digitalisaatiota hyödyntävän, entistä paremman hyvinvointiyhteiskunnan rakentamiseen.
